Pirates = the Danger in Elite Dangerous - thank you

So, the thread title says it all but I realised the other night while doing a bit of trading that whenever I am flying my T6 full of valuable cargo, I get twitchy if I see the hollow icon of another player on my radar. Why is that? Because I am worried that they might be a PvP pirate, of course.... (is anybody actually afraid of random NPCs?)

For a bit of background:

- I normally BH but I'm trying out trading for a bit, just by way of a change and so that I understand all aspects of the game better.
- I don't do PvP and don't want to.
- I always play in Open.
- I've never been pirated.
- I've never been the victim of a griefer but I've seen some pretty odd human player behaviour in and around the docking area!

Given my benign experience of ED so far, I don't even know how I would feel after being the victim of a little piracy but I think I would be pragmatic about it if it was properly role-played and not just mindless destruction for no profit. In the meantime, I love the fact that just knowing that some players choose the PvP piracy gameplay option makes every encounter with a new player, that little bit more exciting.

I don't want this to turn into yet another 'open vs group vs solo' thread or a debate about the validity of playing styles. I just wanted to thank all the pirates for making my ED experience a little more dangerous and a little more fun as a result...

Your expirience with pirates will depend on the mood of the pirate :D
If he is in good mood and you dont carry anything expensive, he will wish you a nice time. But if you carry slaves or palladium, dont expect to keep it :p

Most pirates fly in a clipper right now, so you know what to expect (chaffs are a must in close combat, most clippers use gimbaled).
Right now i have 2 trading setups, a nacked python with 292 cargo and no shields but higher jump range and the battletrader python without shield cells, but 220 cargo and this baby can 1v1 almost any pirate out there^^

We try our best.

Most people don't realise that good pirates enhance the experience of other players and do not grief. In fact, most of the pirates I know are very anti-grief. Grief sends people to solo, so it's a pragmatic approach.

A real pirate is an asset to the game and the reason for open play.
that little bit of danger is why you trade in open. It makes the game more fun.
griefers are an unfortunate downside to open hopefully when they finally iron out PvP and crime even griefers will have their place as big bags of money for the bounty hunters out there.
