Pirating gameplay suggestion

Make materials stealable from player ships.

"Drop all the pharmaceutical isolators you have or else..."

instead of worthless commodities.

Nono, I am against material trading between players.

Let's say I have a nice stockpile of MEF's and my friend needs some.
We meet up and I allow her to hatchbreak me to get what she needs.

And originally you mentioned in your suggestion "Drop all the pharmaceutical isolators you have or else..." , implying that you could voluntarily drop materials in the same way as you can jettison cargo. That would remove the need for hatchbreakers entirely.

Your suggestion effectively enables material trading between players.

well, I thought it was obvious that mine is a proposition which needs coding backup to legitimate loot.

Like in the scenarios we had a glimpse of in the latest update.

The only thing obvious in your proposition is the flaw I've just pointed out.

Have you done any player-piracy before?

That would tie into the previous suggestions by real player pirates on improving the comms and/or introducing a "demand" mechanic. It could work quite well for cargo thefts.

Cooldowns and limits would be a bit clunky and only limit player mat trading, not prevent it. If only limiting it is the intention, then sure, it would work to an extent whilst allowing a small amount of player mat trading.

Just make it so when your target gets blown to pieces some of his/her materials are released (random ones)...just like NPCs.

...seriously though, it won't or shouldn't encourage murder as materials are much easier to farm from all the usual places...and NPCs.

And as you've already pointed out being able to drop mats would be akin to material trading...which I'm dead against.

Fair enough :)

I like the idea of the engineers and using special materials to manufacture mods on your hardware, however...

The whole material storage mechanic is fundamentally flawed.
The material gathering mechanic is too laborious.

Both need an overhaul.

Probably can't have materials piracy without also making materials trading a possibility. This would be bad because . . . well I don't know why materials trading would be bad everyone who has brought it up just says it's bad. Curious if the people who are anti trading would consider it an improvement if players couldn't drop and pick up each other's commodities as well? If not, would love to know why one is a problem and the other isn't?
