Places I must Visit in VR?

The beginner training missions. The first one I think where you have to fly through green targets. Go for it at full tilt. Great in VR.

Well,

after numerous interruptions - Half Life Alyx :) , I've finally reached the Guardian ruins - which look really good.

I've also noticed that I can whizz around in my SRV in VR these days, with no feelings of motion sickness or disorientation. Not sure if some settings have changed, or I've just got used to it at last. It feels more immersive now, and you suddenly realize what an achievement the Planet surfaces are.

Next on my list is some form of human habitation - which is a long way off - I'm currently at NGC 3199 DL-Y at the Guardian Ruins, will see if I can find an interesting route to the nearest habitation.

Will post if I find anything interesting.

P.S. Does having a larger resolution on your monitor affect VR performance much / not at all. Mine is currently low, but I want to take some screenshots, and presume they come out at the Monitor resolution?

Fly safely all,

Fly safely all,

I look forward to see the Guardian Ruins in VR as well. As for the VR/screen resolution: You can set the screen resolution as it is treated separately from the VR. I run 3440 x 1400 as native for the screen with the Oculus at 1268 x 780 (from memory). The annoying thing is that the screen resolution always resets to the lower VR default. So you have to re-set it in every session you want screenshots from.

:D S

I use the high-res screenshot combo (Alt+F10) as it quadruples the monitor window resolution - so even with the defaulted-back-to res (1280x720 I think) you still get a good looking shot.

Just close your eyes in VR, the view spins like crazy while the picture is being rendered :)

One cool thing to do is actually outside ED.

Someone ported the Anaconda into VR Chat, and you can walk around in the cockpit, outside on the deck area, the front observation room and the fighter hangar.
Interestingly, the doors are somewhat small. :)

Morning All,

II bought a Rift S last year, and had a quick few weeks playing ED with it - it looked fantastic - I then for one reason or another have had 6 months away from ED.
I'm now back, but it would appear I parked my ship out in the Vela Ultima Complex - and all I'm seeing are the same planets / features etc - not found anything interesting.

So the question is - Can anyone recommend a few places that are a 'must see' in VR?

I'm happy to go anywhere / start again or perhaps even get a second account if that would expedite things.

Cheers,
Nick

During the lockdown.... Get X plane 11, buy Orbex South England and enjoy the English south coast!

ooh cheers - I'll give it a try.

I didn't know Xplane supported VR - it's been years since I looked at it as a product. Also didn't realise you can get such detailed maps now.
I feel a hole burnin in my wallet.

A few quick question - I've got an X52 Pro - will that be good enough / easy enough to fly it?
Are there varying levels of skill as a pilot - I'm not great, and want to enjoy it, rather than fight against it?

Cheers,

Cheers,

I started with an x52 and it works fine. I got a yoke and throttle eventually because that how most of the planes are controlled. It’s particularly convincing with a 737 but an x52 works fine.

If you start out with a Cessna it’s not too difficult.
There is a flight school in x plane but that’s best done out of VR first (it doesn’t work well in VR)

I've at last made it back from deep space and arrived at Morgan's Rock - only to find it in lockdown - grrrrr.
Another 2000ly to the next station - hopefully that won't be locked down, and I can sell my exploration data - I'm getting twitchy now - there are pirates / other ships about.

Asteroid bases look good in VR though :)
I may have to tune my VR settings down a bit - first time I've used these settings with stations etc. Sure I'll have to do this a few more times when I go to planetary bases.

Cheers

Have you been to any of the nebulae yet? They look wonderful in VR, perhaps join an expedition (sign up at EDSM, good fun when they all jump at the same time). You'll soon be seeing all kinds of wonderful space things. Have fun.....cqc though, if you're on console I think pixel bandits do a console cqc night, Saturday evening I think.

Yes Cheers,

I've passed through the Eta Carina Nebula on My way to Morgans rock. I always thought they looked nice in 2d, but VR really looks spectacular.
CQC may well be worth a go - I'm a PC player, but sure there are still people out there. I haven't tried CQC since it came out - I played for a couple of days - it was fun, but at the time I was having even more fun in ED.

Expedition could be worth a shout - I've got plenty of time at the minute - thanks for the suggestion.

Next Stop Hilary depot - hopefully not in lockdown :)

Further ramblings of CMDR Tiger L.I.V.R.

Well, I finally made it back to the bubble - I've swapped my Explorer for my old faithful Python, things to note :

  • The Python is massive in VR, and the cockpit is equally impressive.
  • Docking is fun - I never used to worry about docking this ship in 2D, but in VR, you wonder how it will ever go past / through the toast rack!
  • Space stations look equally impressive, and huge.

I'm now in a position to start working through the list of suggestions from everybody above - really looking forward to it.

First on my list is probably engineering my engines - I currently only have 24ly jump, whereas my good old Explorer was in the 40s.
I believe you can double the range using guardian stuff - just need to search the forums to learn what to do :)

While doing this, I'm sure I'll land at a few large planetary cities, and see what they are like.

My only regret is that you can't capture how good things look in VR - A Photo really doesn't do it justice.

Thanks again to everyone for the suggestions - I've found my love for ED again.

Blimey - you could have someones eye out with those :)

Create a Female Commander with holo-me (if you haven't done so already) select the commander then look down.. o_O
