What is the closest place to LHS 3447 to find some valuable metals? I'm in a sidewinder with one mining laser and one refinery. Where should I go to start making the big bucks?

If you're hell bent on mining them try either if the roid belts, or if you see a 'Resource Extraction Site' go there (approch from under or over the rings ! and ignore the impact warning just watch your speed and drop out of SC when destination target is engaged).
Alteranively if you have the range, one jump to the SW is LTT 18496 (iirc) which will sell them to you (a lot easier !).

If you want to go mining in a planetary ring, don't use the extraction site, as those are crawling with pirates. Enter the grey part of the ring (the white rings are ice, not rock or metal) at minimum supercruise speed anywhere on the dayside of the planet, but far away from an extraction site. There you can mine in peace.
