Planco2 - How many cores?! AMD vs Intel

Hi all,

Lets make the assumption I exclusively game plance coaster 2 / cities skylines 2 and other CPU heavy titles.

Im building a new PC over Xmas and would like to hear thoughts (for planco2) about whether the new intel ultra series 285 (8P + 16 E cores) or AMD 9800x3d (8 core), 9900x3d (12 core) would be better?

Now I know - everyone raves about X3d and the extra cache. I get that. Everyone hating on the 285, understood. But im thinking a few months down the line with my 15,000 - 25,000 population mega themepark.

Whats going to give me the smoothest experience in this case? will I just be better with more cores? or have people got other thoughts?? My personal thoughts are despite the heat intel is getting its sheer number of cores (24) in the 285k will reign supreme in the larger parks compared to AMD.

For the sake of argument assume its paired with a 5080/5090.

Thanks!

I was wondering about the 14900k vs the 7800x3d myself since they both cost about €500

I dont think the new intel processors are really that much better than a 14900k

Also they are 24e cores but still only 8p cores right? So I would maybe think a 14900k is maybe even safer too because of the higher clockspeed (6ghz instead of the 5.7ghz the ultra 285 has) and overclock abilities. Unless Planet Coaster 2 is completely redesigned to make use of as much cores as possible, I think higher clockspeed is more important so that's why I also think that maybe a 14900k is a safer bet. With decent cooling you could even maybe make it run at 6.2 or even 6.4ghz who knows

Im still planning on building a new system but it was a bit delayed due to some unforseen expenses I had, but if I were to build a new system right now I would go with either the 7800x3d because of it's praise by gamers but if you do more than just game maybe productivity or multi tasking I think a 14900k would be a better option for me and maybe you too?
