planet bases

how many players when on a search for missions ,check out the boards on planet bases, when you arrive at a system they often get over looked. curious realy as after years of ed i have just started doing it.

Yeah I do... mostly because they offer missions exclusively for the owner and nobody else. Landing size restrictions can complicate things but that's navigable.

np i wasnt that clear ,i meant all of them, just a thought came to me while having checked 2 orbit bases didnt fint the type mission i wanted.so dropped in to a planet base in the same system and found just what i was after.made me think how many times have i missed out, never stop learning in this game,

I dont bother with Horizons "bases"

And I rarely bother with Odyssey planetary bases. The planetary landing/takeoff sequences take so much longer.
I usually prefer to use orbital outposts - specifically outposts and not starports - due to faster landings/takeoffs (no mailslot) and due to smaller sizes so less hangar run, less station run to pick up missions.

The one time i use Odd bases is if my faction mission boards are being drowned out by other factions in states like war. Then it becomes my best source of activities despite those slowdowns.

Horizons bases tho... yeh... not much going for them... unless the next closest orbital is 100kls away

I usually avoid both Horizons and Odyssey bases unless there are no better options, simply because they are more of a faff to navigate into than stations. Having to descend towards a planetary surface takes more time.

Sometimes if I'm there for another job I might see what I can get from the board at the target settlement.
I prefer surface ports as they have better views than orbital ports and often better prices, Vista Genomics and Frontline if there's a war. They can also offer commodities not found in orbital ports.
Plus a lot of Cmdrs overlook them so better chances of finding something at Pioneer.
The Ody settlements might have size restrictions but they don't matter unless you're there to trade commodities, (I do wish they'd enable trading with SRV).

Nearly two hundred round trips in an SRV might get some people calling it a g&(;£

If I am trying to gain rep with a particular faction I will sometimes look for their settlements and try to take missions from there. It's hit or miss. If you weren't required to return just to get the payout that would be better.

I do check those out and also frontline solutions to see if there are any medium or high activity ground conflicts.
Not that this thread is for this, but planet bases should have ways to walk out from them, maybe access from your ships hangar, to go for a walk or launch your SRV directly from there. Since that would mean your ship is still 'parked' in whichever hangar, maybe you'd be charged a rental/parking fee?

The distance between settlements is huge, at this stage. For the SRV's, now, maybe they could have delivery of small containers to encampments or to those folks guarding stuff. They need their Big Macs too. That, or we wait till the next types of planets are landable that have more communities/small cities on them, so they're closer together.

But really, for the distances now, we'd need a big cargo transport SRV...or SCT (surface cargo transport) that can traverse the seemingly large bumps, now, easier. Our little SRV's get spun around easy because they are small. Maybe the SCT's could only be launched from a size 6 or 7 vehicle bay, but also directly from a ground settlement?

I usually use orbitals unless there's a close surface port and the stations are much farther out. I hadn't thought of trying Odyssey settlements to get missions if the orbitals aren't putting out good ones; I may give that a whirl (Thanks Jmanis for that idea). I'm really inefficient time wise with on-foot missions so I stick to space missions in either case if I have a specific objective I'm working towards.

I do as well… assuming I’m running missions these days. I’m often looking to do a mix of on-foot, surface, and space missions, and the on-foot boards at settlements feel less odorous to use than those at stations or planetary ports.

<<< still waiting for full integration of the boards on-foot and in space.
