Planet Coaster Day Four Discussion Thread

I'd just like to say that I have really enjoyed watching the live streams and the building demonstrations from the various community members. It has been a fantastic few days of entertainment. I am eagerly awaiting the release date when I get to download and play this beautiful game.

My favourite master builder was De Lady Signer. No offence to the other guys but you aren't quite as good looking!

Just got home and watched back the streams... 2 things i particular noticed :

1. In the Q&A it was asked what other staff we would have, the answer was Mechanics would be added for sure and maybe some others. But what about this guy?

2. I was really amazed when i saw guests will walk around litter bin's and other stuff thats build on path's. This wasn't talked about before but i think this is quite an amazing thing that greatly adds realism!

Ok, I have been playing this game for a couple days now and here is my thoughts.

I don't mean to be to harsh, but building a coaster with this interface is horrible. Please do not tell me this is how the coasters are built by using those buttons with click and drag. If this is how it is gonna be, I would like my money back. I do realize this is in alpha stages. But I am doubtful the interface will change by the release. Smoothing out a coaster is near impossible. The banks never line up even after messing with it for an hour or so. I have not built one single smooth coaster yet with these controls.

I might as well go back to playing rollercoaster Tycoon at this point.

Essentially that is how the coaster construction will be. But just look at some of the recent streams, they are still improving the interface (sadly they didn't show much about coaster building, mostly focused on blueprints and stuff).

They have added a new smooth options for 'smooth banking only' and 'smooth all'. That should hopefully help with smoothing and wobble issues.

They have added new handles to the track pieces so it should be easier to select the track pieces you want.

Terry, give it time!
It is not easy to master. Neither is RollerCoaster Tycoon Worlds builder. Although, they do have the old style piece by piece builder, but it's frustrating as well.
Planet Coasters builder really is good, once you get the hang of it. It just keeps getting better too!
Watch some tutorials. Start small. Get comfortable.

Working in freeform 3D is daunting.

Terry, there will be 2 diferent smoothing tools in Alpha 3 (banking and general) Hope that make you change your opinion. And may I ask what are your thoughts about the rest parts of the game such as building, graphics, audio...

i really like the coaster editor, you can build a coaster pretty quick, trying to go from rctw over to planet coaster could be the problem, if you had started with planet coaster to begin with, you might find it easier to work with.

I totally agree [yesnod]

Hi lovely members of this fantastic community!

I've also posted this in the Coaster Head Club but thought that I would like to share this with all of you, because you're all part of this amazing community!

I have visited the amazing team of Planet Coaster on Gamescom on Sunday. It was an overwhelming, fantastic and truly awesome experience! I've met with Zac, Bo, Ed, Dale and also with Richard and Andy. The team was SO NICE! They really are a lovely bunch of people that share a great passion, dedication and love for the games that they make and support: Planet Coaster and Elite: Dangerous. But not only them, this counts for everyone at Frontier! [heart]

I also met with amazing members of the community: Chris Sawyer (#ChrisBeefBelief), De-Lady-signer (#redlipstick), Rudi, Silvarret, Vampiro and some other members. I'm blown away by the awesomeness of the team and the community! It was an experience I will never forget, and I am super grateful that I had the opportunity to meet all of you! [heart]

It was great to have so many livestreams of Planet Coaster! Thank you Frontier for this amazing journey and for giving us the ride of our dreams! The ride is not finished yet, but will become even greater, beyond what a lot of us thought would be possible in a game like this.

Thank you everyone for watching and chatting in the livestreams! It was wonderful to see so many of you in the chat!

Thank you all for your amazing and continued support! It's awesome to be part of this community!

Pictures (advise: viewing these looks better on Imgur itself, go there through the option button on the top right)
There were some lovely pictures made at the Planet Coaster booth. I look very much forward to the pictures of Bo that she will be sharing with us later on (she is doing a fantastic job!). I've had the most wonderful experience to be on picture with members of the team and community! And last but not least: Gulpee Rex and Chief Beef! They were there and I've met with them! [heart]

Sorry for using so many 'amazing' words. I've long since run out of other words to describe this feeling and don't know what else to say or use. [wink]

Hey Frontier Team, is there a Chance that the Theme of Attractions is multiple?
I see the Atrraction with the cups ans ask my slef why just cups, in one Park i need it with Ghosts or something else.
If we take Break Dance, it gives so many differences between the Breakdances Atrraction, is it maybe possible that u can say chose ur own attraction?

I do apologize for being so harsh. And yes, maybe its because I am used to Roller Coaster Tycoon.

As far as graphics, the game is amazing. I have a pretty powerful PC and the FPS is fantastic.

I absolutely love rollercoasters, and I love building them even more. I just do not like the build interface. Its really hard to see where the coaster is going and making pieces fit properly is nearly impossible. But then again, maybe its just me.

Audio is quite amazing too. Pretty much everything but the build interface is quite impressive. I am a big roller coaster critic and I have been looking for a GOOD coaster builder. I am not sure how I would personally like the interface to be, but how it is now just doesn't seem to be very user friendly.

I will play around with it some more and see if I can adapt to it.

Please forgive me for being rude in my previous post. It was just frustrating me and I unleashed in a rude way.

Don't worry, it's different for everyone. I actually couldn't use the coaster builder in RCTW at all. If you have the patience, practice a lot, watch a few videos (I'll probably be making a few as well when alpha 3 comes out). First tip: forget everything you've learned from RCTW, because it won't do you any good in PC.

Terry I don't think you were rude at all :)
This is a forum and you just gave your opinion, no problem with that, to be honest, I think we are all enthusiasts of Planet Coaster so is good to hear diferents opinion too.

The PC coaster editor is a very different beast to any other editor and as such needs to be approached in its own way and you kinda have to forget everything you have learned with old RCT games and relearn anew. Example being that with RCT to make a banked corner you have a straight piece then a corner which you bank then another straight piece. Job done. With PC you have to start the banking on the straight piece before the corner in order to achieve a smooth bank transition, then the same on the way out.

The editor is certainly not perfect and can be frustrating, particularly on custom inversions but it's heading the right way and constantly being improved upon. Just takes some getting good used to. But in the end is very rewarding.

I have been playing the game No Limits coaster. If you haven't used it, its just a coaster designer, not an economic game. This software has quite an advanced designer and can be quite frustrating as well. PC has a similar layout but is more limited than no limits. I will put in some time with PC and give more feedback as I go.
