IMPORTANT: Planet Coaster Development Update

Can we pretty please have some RCT3 rides back? Like the 3D Cinema, Rotor, Round Up, Motion Simulator, Sky Swing, Gravitron, etc.? How about a Himalaya/Thunder Bobs, and Musik Express? We had all of those in RCT3, Musik is a user made ride. How about more horror theming and a new ghost train car, and a narrow path that acts as a ride for walk through haunted houses? In RCT3 I used the mini golf path without holes for that purpose. When are the go karts coming that were shown in a livestream? You forgot a car type for the tracked ride, sports cars.

So ...

Looking forward now to the next update. Which will be 94 days in a worst case scenario of end of April [tongue]

I wonder if the paid additions will come before or after the big update [mouth shut]

It would be better ... forget about payment content, and let them update the game for FREE until they reach a level of content like the RCT, since the planet coaster was just born ... and already think of paying AGAIN? Shameful the current video game industry, so I would not pay anything else, until it is not a stable game and content enough to feel that everything that comes after is content that should not bring the base game, such as current or Zoo, as the previous RCT
P D : sorry i'm use google translator :D

YES PLEASE :)

Please let the "gameplay features" of April update include VR support. If you need someone not in-house as a Crash Test Dummy to beta test it for you, I have an HTC Vive, and I am willing to put my vestibular and gastrointestinal systems to the ultimate test in... well, at least some of my less questionable coaster rides. Give me a call.

The paid content I have to admit concerns me a bit. I am fine with DLC, but micro-transactions... I'm not a fan of those at all and try to stay clear of any game that has them. They have really ruined a lot of games for me. Though, I am from the days where once you bought a game, you owned the entire game. Updates were not common, but the games were solid when they were released. I also wish the game would steer away from cosmetics and scenery. At first I though queue and ride scenery were great ideas. I then realized it leads to the game running poorly. It is nearly impossible to build a park without some sort of FPS lag. I started burying gold chests in the ground.

The game overall is a great game and so far you have done well with updates. I have faith that these "cosmetic" purchases were well thought out and won't affect my gaming experience negatively. I hope they won't affect using blueprints and I hope to see some optimization updates soon. I don't have a super setup, but I do have a decent computer and can play nearly any game recently released with decent graphical settings. Planet Coaster, I play on low.

Anyways, just wanted to leave my few cents. I hate to leave off negatively so let me finish by saying that I really do like the game. The community relations are some of the best I have seen and quite a bit of new content has been added regularly. It has so far been a good experience and all of this is what gives me faith that you have thought things through when it comes to these additional purchases.

Greetings Team. Just wanted to share a few words with you.

First of all, great job on going your own direction away from the past and creating such a beautiful game. I mean, this game is really beautiful! From the atmospheric haze, to the shadows and reflected light (really, like the attention to detail such as allowing light to behave properly) to the peeps dancing to the music. Not to mention, its a solid game! Even with the Alphas, I didn't get crashes, graphical issues, game play issues, nothing. Its been a solid, well coded game from the start (IMO), and that has not gone unnoticed.

- A few things of my personal favorites. I made some Custom Trees for RCT3, some realistic is both size and texture that nearly became a must in everybody's park. So I am a big fan of your foliage! The trees are small to BIG, and I love that. I also love the selection that you have created for the game. Of course I will make a suggestion such as adding a Date Palm and perhaps the tall palm trees you seen in California?

- Another thing, the textures. My god, they are done so well. Great job on the textures and all the proper mapping that goes with it. I know that its not as easy as the finished product looks. Not only are the textures nice, but the proper use of spec, normal, bump mapping is really utterly TOP notch. Like the tops of the train cars, look completely like 3D fabric draped over the carriages.

- Speaking of the Train, its wonderful! But, yes a but, can you please, please, please add a path and railroad crossing? Weather it generated automatically when placing a path over the track or a special track piece that the path connects to, please get that in the game.

- I also love the effects such as the haze. Nothing like walking around the park in the AM and have that humid look to the air. Something so small, can add so much. I'm recreating Busch Gardens in Tampa on the Savannah style map and the Haze is spot on for how it is in good ol Florida. I like how big the parks feel when you get to their level.

I'm OK with paid content, if done right, and seeing as your team did so well on RCT3 (again, another amazing game for its time) I see no issues with buying paid content. I would love to have Animals and Water Parks again. If you do the smaller micro-transactions, all I can request is that it be worth its value. I understand that value also includes the time and effort to make these things, but please don't come up short. But seeing how well the base game is, I don't see you having an issue with that.

- Not everyone understands the amount of time and effort go into creating anything, let alone a game. Things do not make themselves and everyone has bills to pay.

Anyway, please keep up the good work. Love the game. There's a reason why your gets played and the others collect dust, just as simple as listing to your customers. A simple fundamental of running a successful business and not filling for Ch11..

This is a really well written comment. How could i miss that Old-Spice is around us here? You are some sort of RCT3 Childhood memory for me... [squeeeeee]

What you said about paid content is exactly what i think too. I have never done custom objects for RCT3 but i always respected the time and efford all these creators in the community brought in to their projects and i absolutely understand that this is absolutely not just "put a texture on a object". I think many people are just not aware of the time and effort it needs to do such high quality assets and i wondered a bit, that every RCT3 custom object was free. In other communitys (train sims are a good example) there are custom payware objects and such things. This never happened to RCT and this deserves all respect someone can give. But in terms of frontier, this is a little bit of a different thing here, thats their job and they have to make money. They cant support this game on this quality level for long with free updates every few months, thats just not possible.

larger expansions like rct3 would help the workshop community, but flooding the game with small "microtransaction" DLCs would break the workshop into fragments with many blueprints becoming blocked to those who may not have purchased all the DLCs, I hope that is not the case for PC and why I think the devs should follow in the path of rct3s expansions

Hmm, you do have a point here. I guess it depends on the type of content they send out. I don't see this being a huge issue if its rides, paths, path objects, ect. Stuff that you cant really add to a BP or can do without. Things would get messy real quick having 25 different sets and everyone will only buy what they want. So there goes the workshop out the window.

It would be interesting to see how this is handled. Only 9 days out.

Another thing that a lot of you have been wondering about is paid additional content for Planet Coaster and how this may work in the future. Planet Coaster is a passion for our community and developers alike; that’s why our next major update (1.2), coming in mid-late April, will once again be available for everyone who owns Planet Coaster for free. It will come with a number of gameplay features, flatrides, and new coasters that we’re super excited to be showing you over the coming weeks. We will also be introducing cosmetic optional purchases for those of you who want to give your parks that little extra personality!

Any idea when we'll hear more on these cosmetic purchases? Is this happening with or after 1.2?

...DLCs would break the workshop into fragments with many blueprints becoming blocked to those who may not have purchased all the DLCs...

A way to avoid this problem would be to allow the blueprint to be downloaded anyway by anyone whether they own the DLC or not, and any DLC items not purchased are simply missing or hidden from the park. In their place a generic object or blank space where the DLC is meant to be - perhaps with some indication that this is a missing DLC item space to avoid confusion.

I think that would satisfy most people in terms of keeping the workshop flowing without any blocking of whole blueprints.

More cunning business logic could be applied to further tempt DLC purchase of items within blueprints by allowing a quick preview of the DLC item for a few seconds before it is locked and hidden again. This would mean the DLC data is actually there in the blueprint, just not activated / accessible.

Don't think they will do that. This means the DLC is in the game data and people will definitely try to use them without purchasing (modding).

Well the question is, will the DLC be aimed at builders or players? I don't know what the numbers look like, but I'm sure there are lots of people who play but don't build, or are casual and only dipped their toe in the water with building, so to speak.

In that case maybe the DLC pieces show up in workshop items anyone can download, but people who do not have the DLC cannot use or manipulate those items. In other words, plop a workshop blueprint down and it has all the pieces, but non-DLC people wouldn't be able to select, copy or use those pieces.

It would just be weird if you download workshop items and pieces are missing all over the place. There's also no way to predict how people use individual pieces either, and the player base is really creative about that, so even small pieces can make a big difference if they're absent.

Of course the other option would be segregating the workshop itself into DLC and non-DLC blueprints. That would get progressively more confusing with each new DLC, however. I'm not even sure Steam Workshop is built to do that.

BTW I'm saying this as a player who plans to buy "builder DLC." If devs put out a pack with 200 new and useful pieces to build with, I'm all for paying for that. And on the player side, supporting that work also means supporting ongoing development of the game. In a game like this, where builders can put hundreds or potentially thousands of hours into the game, of course we want the game to do well and for the devs to continue supporting it for years to come.

There are more games out there that have Workshop and DLC. Most of these games just have an extra filter in the Workshop. So whenever someone uses a piece in a blueprint that is in a DLC, people who don't have the DLC cannot use it in their game. That's just a marketing trick to actually trigger people to buy the DLC because they can't use the blueprint/piece.

It is already in the game. If you have a blueprint for a coaster which you didn't research yet the blueprint is blocked off because you are lacking pieces. The same will just happen with DLC stuff.

Some form of practical fall back like this is highly desirable. For many years I used a lot of user generated content in rct 3. But endless problems with compatibility and being unable to find all the matching ugc files when installing on a new computer, and being unable to easily share parks without major incompatibility problems, drove me to resort back to rct3 Vanilla and give up on ugc.

I have no problem if it is very very easy to acquire all necessary DLC in one click and I have no problem paying Frontier for significant content drops. I feel very punished by paying tiny amounts for tiny benefits over and over I and I find incompatibility problems very punishing as well.

So happy to pay for ongoing game development by buying things but it has to be easy and simple and there have to be practical fallbacks when there are compatibility problems.
