Planet Coaster Livestream 'Shared Vision' - Your Questions Needed

Edward Lewis1

Hi everyone!

Yay! Alpha 2 is coming up... let's do some streams about it.

This is very much a series of streams leading up to the alpha release at the end of May, so we've got a nice schedule of content planned for the next few weeks.

Have a look at the schedule here.

About Wednesday's stream.

"In our first weekly livestream we take a look at some of changes we've implemented into this next phase of alpha thanks to your feedback. In this stream we'll be focusing on pathing, guest reactions and other gameplay tweaks. Live from our Planet Coaster official YouTube channel."

The stream will be with Producer Richard Newbold, and Lead Designer Andrew Fletcher. They want to answer as many of your questions as possible, so ask away in the thread below! Remember, this week's stream is all about pathing, guest reactions and gaming tweaks based on the feedback you've been sending our way. So please try to keep your questions focused on that, as we'll be able to get you much better answers... there will be lots of time to talk about the other stuff coming to Alpha 2 in the coming streams.

looking forward to seeing you all there, tomorrow night at 7PM BST, on our YouTube channel

Have any changes to pathing been implemented thanks to community feedback? The biggest annoyance for me personally with the paths is the fact i can't create one big square easily without having little 'o' in between. If that makes sense.

Any idea how long the stream is expected to run for, roughly? Living in NZ I'm wondering if it's worth getting up at 6am to watch before work.

Questions:

1. The guest are great, but I do notice something that you mentioned prior how guest would react to scenery and rides,* however during alpha so far it seems very "randomish", are we waiting on the heavier AI code for guest for this sort of detail? or is it in and I am just not "seeing" it as I thought it would be? Oh and on rides atm, I miss the screams in other titles, we need more :) I know coasters where a special things but the guest going on them had less reaction then I thought, don't take me wrong , excellent animations etc, but going down long hills (hands up screaming) or slight turns and long straight runs these things occurs allot in parks ;)

2. "Stairs" did I say Stairs?!

3. Long pillars from paths and coasters power-diving past cliffs and high lands near edges ? Assume being adjusted?

4. Love the pathing had a thought, a toggle button that would say "guest allowed" , "No guest allowed", allowing us to use pathing for more then just "Pathing" just a thought ;) While signs in other titles worked, sometimes you just want no signs or well you get the idea why I am sure. Oh and the NO guest allowed could be highlighted shaded paths during edited, IE maybe a slight shade color down on those paths marked as such.

LAST QUESTION *probaby should have been my first!*

5. I would love to be able to put items in the paths that are not passable. ***
This could solve blocking paths as no guest allowed concept , but more for thinking down the road such as tables for eating areas and light post down the middle of the paths instead of sides etc. Would add a great many possibilities for ideas! One might think of logistic nightmares, I would suggest this "could" kill pathing in some parks, but that comes down to design choices of the park manager, sometimes what you thought would be good is not the case. Just adding another cool layer to park designing and implementation. I would do this as a check box ... "Blocking ON" / "Blocking OFF".

* reaction from rides, scenery etc.. prime example no one seems to react at all to the pirate band and other such things. When I put the pirate band down I was expecting people to stop (not all only a very few) and watch while most would just pass and watch and maybe point or comment.

*** please note that interaction with blocking would still be possible, IE perfectly example, tables. Not sure how difficult this implementation would be in your particular code, but it would be an excellent feature.

edit: ok done editing, yea seriously :)

I loved the earlier live streams, so this should be another great watch! Can't wait to hear what all off you have been up to!

First things first, the alpha is very entertaining as is, but I am so happy to hear that you guys have been improving some stuff that felt a bit clunky. So my question is:

  • What is the most surprising feedback you guys got for the alpha?

And maybe you could explain what you did to address the feedback?

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!

Any plans to curve the path while lowering or raising?

Will the terrain adjust to the path so we don't have ground sticking up like in "stay on target"?

How will the terrain editor function with prebuilt paths?

What was the most unexpected suggestions that you are implementing?

Great question!!

Love love love phase 1 and very much looking forward to phase 2 and beyond. Will the guest AI improve as the alpha phases progress? What are some of your favorite guest animations that aren't in the game yet but coming either in phase 2 or 3?

1. Will there be a way to have people walk inside buildings on, say, a walkable floor, rather than having to weave paths through the building, and have grass showing through due to their curved edges?
2. Will we be able to have a path slope downwards gradually in curves rather than just the straight angled sections that we have just now?

- Will there be children with higher tolerance? I noticed they currently will not enter thrillrides (sunflare) or simple single loop coasters.
- Will guests throw up on the paths or will they do it into the scenery? Or is there even something like this a all.

And it would be nice to say what you got as an feedback and the devs already know by now will not come. At least not in the release.

What are you thinking about RCTW and Atari's suggsesion to role back to "early access"?

maybe they will answer that :D

But more over a good Question will be:

WILL THERE BE WATER IN Planet Coaster?

Will there be paths only for staff? So staff can move around the park taking shortcuts, and can move around a bit unseen by guests?

Also, just in case: will we get Gulpee Rex in Alpha phase 2? [heart]

#GulpeeRexRocks

Will we be able to create 2 paths next to eachother without the border of the paths. I want to fill up my whole park with paths, I'm allergic to those little spots that still have grass.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to answer our questions. a collection of my questions can be found below.

Pathing:

-> Will plazas become a possibility with the updated pathing system?

-> Will there be a way to create extendable/collapsable queue paths? (As in: create paths that are only used if the queue is too long, open and closeable with a toggle on a certain element?

Guest reactions:

-> Will guests react to...
- New attractions being build near them
- New attractions being tested
- New scenery being build
- "Coming soon" panels (making them wonder what will come soon)
- Busy/calm areas
- Dark (scary) areas
- Other groups/families
- Weather (I am aware that a weather cycle is not confirmed yet)
- ...

-> Will groups interact with other groups? (Stand still to make a talk with others, ...)

-> Will guests do "bad" stuff: trying to pass other groups in a queue, litter on purpose, annoy other groups, annoy staff, ...

-> If "yes" for previous answer: will guests react to this?

-> Will staff have reactions?

Gaming tweaks:

-> None yet...

Misc questions:

-> Will there be both (paid) "Expansion packs" and "Free dlc", or only expansion packs?

-> What will be the name of the first major update?

-> Disappoint us: What is one often-asked-for request that you, sadly, won't put in the game?

-> Make us happy: What is one feature that you kinda kept hidden for us, until now, and that will make us love the game even more?

Questions that have been asked before/after, but that are worth repeating:

-> Will there be paths only for staff (Joël)

-> Will guests throw up on the paths (Periocus)

-> Will there be a way to have people walk inside buildings (gregorburns1)

-> I would love to be able to put items in the paths that are not passable. (Guardious)

Will the coaster cams / ride cams be changed?
One thing that slightly bugs me is each time I click on a coaster, or ride, it goes to cinematic view first, I think it should automatically go to first person view.

Another question, will we be able to change the coaster cam so that it moves with the car? Planet Coaster seems to be doing that thing that RCT3 had where the camera starts "turning" before the car itself, In RCT3, this could be fixed by pressing page down, but would go back to that fixed cam if the coaster cars went underground, with silly fast coasters, the camera would wobble and go crazy, and with Wild Mouse coasters (more importantly) with those small turnings, the coaster cam would look back / behind on itself because those turnings were so sharp.

Will we be able to create dining/picnic areas. I would love to create a chiefbeef restaurant with a dining space. Thanks. Keep up the awesome job.
