Planet Coaster Online Only?

Haven't seen anything in the way of mentioning this but after seeing all the videos with the global pins for you to visit everyones park, it makes me believe there is no offline play for this game?

thanks for the reply... but that didn't really answer the question though... it was a yes and no answer.... it wasn't a definite yes you can play offline completely because of the "periodic" connection to their server... so can we play offline or not? heh

(don't want elite:Dangerous type offline play when its just solo, not offline, in a theme park simulation game)

I'm not sure a "Yes" or "No" does work as an answer to your question. [haha][haha]

Yes.

No.
Haha, just kidding!

Doesn't work! I think the game can be played offline, in that you could disconnect your computer completely. But I would imagine that you'll need to "Check In" now and again to confirm your machine.

lol np!

yeah that is what im thinking, so is it really offline then if you can only play it so long without a connection? this was why the xbox one got into such hot water before it launched, for a very similar situation...

What's up with people being afraid of Online Only games? This game isn't 100% Online Only, I don't think. With that said, Online Only is the future. Everyone has internet nowadays. You go to your local McDonalds and get free WiFi. If an Online Only world came into being, what is the issue with it?

We don't really know at this point what "periodically checking on our servers" means. I agree with you, offline play is an important part for me too.

The issue - in general, not this game in particular - is that you are not paying for a game but for an online service. When the servers go offline, the game dies (Darkspore). Also, if the servers have downtime, you cannot play (SimCity). Lastly, if you have connection problems, you cannot play (a problem found on a lot of ISPs and in many parts of the world, you know).

The sim management genre is predominantly a single player game genre, and free modding is a staple of PC gaming. You are arguing that the opposite should be the future. My only argument is this. City Skylines vs Sim City 5.

This - coupled with the devastating single player/offline debacle that the other major Frontier game had, Elite: Dangerous - is the main reason for a lot of players being worried. Personally, I am hopefull that Frontier will do the genre justice..C:

Online is a great option, but considering how bad internet stability is even in todays age of internet broadband, I don't have or cannot get, fast, reliable internet where I live.... 60% of the united states doesn't even have a speed over 8MB connection, there is nothing worse then playing a game, which is primarly a solo experience like a coaster simulation game, and then being force to exit out of the game or it suddenly bumps you out to the main menu simply because the servers went down, or you lost internet for some reason out of your control and have your work lost, would be a disaster for any simulation game.... just look at what happened to sim city lol
