Planet Coaster/Steam sale

Full game only £7.49 (75% off!) [woah] (that's quite an extreme price reduction) and Spooky pack reduced a little at 15% off. Adventure pack costing more than the main game's gonna tilt a few people I can imagine [big grin]

This is not good, could it be sales have dramatically fallen and Frontier are desperate to get revenue and interest kept in the game!

.... no, actually the game is over a year old and it's quite common practice for a massive Christmas sale :) many big games will get a 75% reduction and a Steam promotion. This is common in the gaming industry.

The Adventure Pack just came out a week ago so there's not an option for that to go on sale. Spooky is relatively new so a smaller sale price there; still all good numbers.

There's nothing to worry about. At all. A lot of people will go past their Steam wishlist and buy games for low prices - Christmas sale is an annual thing and arguably where a lot of companies make a lot of money, hence the big reductions. Some players specifically wait for this time of year to buy popular games at cheap prices.

Hope this helps,

And a lot of those people didn't plan on buying the game anyway on full price. So those people will buy now and hopefully get hooked and buy the DLC's as well. In that way it can be even seen as a positive.

I stated before, there are whole study's for marketing. It's not always as simple as it looks :)

Noticed the words 'hopefully get hooked' - to summarise if they a minecraft type player who enjoys building yeah no doubt more sales will flood in for DLC side, however if they are stimulated more so by the management and/or ease of use with tools sides then they might not!

Seeing the heavy discount and also bearing in mind past discussions with regard to problems still not fixed and the awareness by many with regard to the management / tools side, I was concerned that sales generally have dropped. I do enjoy the game (have not played for months properly as still waiting for the management side to be on par with the very good build aspect) hence I am still here waiting in desperation for that golden day when I can finally retract all my comments made about PC. In a weird way I am still the eternal optimist :)

Me too! I love PlanCo I love frontier! Amazing design.. wow graphics! Very adorable graphic style going on. I am optimistic too, I just wait for my turn on the game focus area. :) Little by little. I liked the addition of the staff building which is a late addition so I am optimistic to see more managment-side additions. :)

Yep. If it's £0 or £7.49 clearly the latter is the preferred option for Frontier [up] (and some of those new buyers may get tempted by the DLC now or later down the road) When it reverts to original price it will still sell to an extent but for now let those non PC owners get in on the action for Xmas. The more players the better.

Case and point, I just bought Elite Dangerous for $7. I dont know if I will like it or not but for that price why not give it a try

We're at the point now where most people who were on the fence about the game will either have bought it or forgotten about it. A big sale like this appeals to those who might normally not go for this type of game, or for who it might have been a much lower priority than other games. We're into the "no brainer" type prices here and every copy moved during this sale is realistically one that wouldn't have otherwise been made. That Frontier will make some extra money from consequential DLC sales is an added bonus.

Does that really matter? Anyone who had a bigger interest in this game most likely already bought it. Now they get new players that might buy it just to test because the price is low. Regardless if they will like it or not, it is a sale for Frontier and more money in their pockets than what they had before. Then is some of the new players do get hooked (not all will since this is not a game for everyone) it is a win-win for Frontier and ultimately for all of us as it will keep the game going. Very few people will buy a game for full price over a year after it's release. Very few, if any games, do sell at full price that long after release. I see this as a very positive thing for Planet Coaster as a whole. More players =- more money for development = more DLCs and additions = more fun for all of us. The alternative could very well be that this is it for Planet Coaster. They made their money and does not see any future revenues from it and thus will move on to something else (sensible and basic business economics). Why so negative?

Problem for me is that I have been spoilt playing a geo simulator called Democracy 3 and also Tribal Wars both extremely mathematical type games to the point where on TW I designed spread sheets for my tribe/s so we could do mass noble train attacks 4 to 5 in a thousandth of a second!

I don't expect PC to go anywhere near these programs as that would be folly and seriously unfair however I would like to see at least a medium level of management in the game. I was explaining last night to my neighbour about some of the management aspects not considered in PC and in his words he said but that is basic and I went yep I know!

Optimistic though :)

Why so negative?

I know why they reduced the price I am just saying that there are people like me who also like the analytical side and not just the glamour/build side and atm this game is more appealing to the right hemsesphere side of the game bringing in a stream of creative, positive and a much younger audience. When the balance (not negative but constructive, thank you for your kind words) of the hemespheres are met then the appeal will be vast and PC would of opened up the attraction to not just one side! Comprende?

It is quite normal for PC games to get deep discounts (often less than) a year after release. It says nothing about the quality, sales figures or future plans of said game. As stated, everyone even remotely interested now had their change to plunge in at a relative low-risk price. It does mean though, that there is not much incentive for the developer to continue free large free updates since the sales of the base game will probably dry up after this sale. Next stop is the inclusion in some humble bundle.

A cheaper game means more people buy it, play it, and the game gets more exposure. Big discounts like these are great for games, especially around the holidays.

http://steamcharts.com/app/493340 I know this doesn't take into account everyone since there are plenty who play offline, but it's a decent gauge.

The game has definitely seen a healthy increase, and that's great! More people playing means more updates! [cool]

For me it's a sign that the game isn't worth the money any longer (if it ever was worth it).
In my opinion PC is still not complete. Frontier is adding basic content, that should have been in at release, as PDLC to get more money out of it. Why not adding it at release and develop real new/additional content as PDLC? What a shame...

Why should we buy full price (maybe incomplete) games any longer?
From now on I'll wait for sales if I want to buy anything on steam...
