General / Off-Topic Planet coaster vs rollercoaster tycoon world - opinions please

I would really like opinions and advice please

I have just signed up to this forum as I have just started to play Planet Coaster again after some months of first installing it and having a play around. I had Roller Coaster tycoon world installed when it was first officially released and thought it wasn't that great. But I am thinking they may have improved it since then so I am unsure of what to dedicate to

So which game is better and why

Comments would be great

RollerCoaster Tycoon World is a game that is considered a massive failure by the majority of the community. It is lacking many features that where promised by Atari but were never delivered with the game; transport rides, path tunnelling, movable entrances and exits of rides, recolourable rides, correct ride animations, and lots more. Furthermore, Atari has ended development of RCTW. They haven’t admitted so, but it’s clear that they have based on the signs surrounding the game.

Planet Coaster on the other hand is still receiving regular updates with both free and paid content and new features.

This is the battle between Planet Coaster and RCTW and RCTW revealing its shocking secret to Planet Coaster.

I think they can be best described by this picture:

Prefer Planet Coaster.

Planet Coaster has better graphics, more awesome rides and scenery, UI is very user friendly, the peeps in the game are detailed and better. Downsides with the game is it has no swimming pools, no water slides, and larger parks struggle to run even on high end gaming PC's.

I did look up Roller Coaster Tycoon world. It failed several ratings. Eurogamer "avoid" another rater rated it in it's 40's/100. This game is cheaper NZ$14.99 than PC (NZ$49~). It does have some good graphics but the people don't look as good as PC. And PC has better AI (peeps) too. This game could be a substitute for PC especially for people on a strict budget. Graphics look ok but does it have as good mechanics, UI, and ease of building, as PC has? There is a main reason why it's cheaper than PC. It means a less quality game.

It's already pretty clear how desperate you are for these. For you it's a downside. For others (like me) not.

Downside of RCTW is it does not comes close to the quality Planet Coaster has.
Planet Coaster of course has some "problems" as well, but (for me) it doesn't ruin the gameplay as much as RCTW's wacky engine. Played it once, never touched it again.

why do we have to start a new RCTW thread? we already have one... just go look at the RCTW forums to know that game was dead before it even launched

It's not just me who wants it. Silverett, lady designer, keralis, and many others like the idea of it. Although some types of people who contribute on this forum, which is only a small fraction of the total people who play the game.... may not want it. But don't underestimate the number of people who want it. [happy]

Otherwise, I'm fine with Planet Coaster and how it is (besides the lag if you go cra cra if you want to run a bigger park). But I'm really keen for swimming pools and water slides. Maybe they'll release a specific new game which focuses more on that. Rather than playing RCT3 which is what over a decade old.

It's a bit misleading to say that the only downside to PC is that it doesn't contain pools, while RCTW doesn't has this either, while your post suggests it does.

I'd say Parkitect is the underdog that may very well end on top, after all.

RCT World was undeniably dead on arrival, and Planet Coaster seems to have entered a kind of limbo where the game is still being plastered with scenery packs and half-arsed, shallow new features - but the game isn't really evolving anymore. Parkitect on the other hand is still in active development and is currently making big leaps since they are approaching a proper 1.0 release.

It has the visual charm and simplicity of RollerCoaster Tycoon but with actual innovating features and a meaningful simulation. They way Parkitect guest are aware of sight-lines and rain protection really puts PlanCo's guest brain and its silly arbitrary numbers to shame.

Thank you all for your replies, much appreciated

I had checked some of the comments on the Roller Coaster Tycoon World forum the other day and saw the negative comments in there, wow

What do you think went wrong with that game? You would have thought they would have tried to compete with Planet Coaster on a higher level. When I played it on first beta release, I got bored quickly and forgot about it, so thought by now it would have improved. This baffles me

The only thing I think RC T W has over planet coaster is the inclusion of custom models and scenery, with out having to use the in game pieces

[up] this.

Atari wanted to do a AAA game on the cheap. That shows in the multiple partners they had and their use of a lot of Unity stuff so they didn't have to design their own. They even searched for royalty-free music and sound effects. As for UGC, they bragged up the ability of players to add their own assets, then created a buggy system to do so, then basically abandoned it even after all that hype. Just yet another in a long, LONG list of broken promises...

What about Parkitect? I'd say that it's in the middle.

Parkitect wins. I must ignore the graphics. I hate that graphics style. I´m not also sure if I´m happy that it´s grid based. It´s simplier, but I miss possibility to build paths however I want.

Although, that´s it. There is nothing else I can complain about in Parkitect and gameplay is awesome, deep, challenging and dynamic. That kind of gameplay I expected from PC, but it didn´t happen.

What is the most stunning about Parkitect is their very small team that achieved great things with Parkitect.
