Horizons Planet Cracker Ships

What does everyone think about planet cracking it Elite Dangerous?? We have an entire galaxy of planets, asteroids and moons. Does anyone think it would be cool if just like you had specific planets that you can land on, you could also have specific things that you could planet crack and get materials from??? This could add to the in game economy and open up another career path in planet cracking. You would need a crew of 4 and there would be a learning curve with a high reward. I tried pitching this on the Star Citizen forums and I was shunned, so what do you all think??

If everything goes as planned, there'll be a shortage of planets within hours from its release.
Like- players that would nothing else.
Literally.

So- nope thanks.

.... although, re-reading, the OP does seem to lean towards planetary resource extraction, i.e. mining, rather than a Death Star vs Alderaan scenario....

Actually.. I would be for this if only because you limited it to 'specific planets' not all planets. I would like this to shift into a Mining update as a whole, first starting to break down and destroy whole asteroids within a belt before we start thinking about ripping apart planets. Baby steps, baby steps a half a kilometer in diameter, but still baby steps. :D

Wouldn't work.

Reason :
- Material Storage full (still floating in Space : 14122x Iron, 11985x Nickel, 8147x Sulphur, 7006x Phosporous, 5754x Carbon)
- Refinery full (still floating in space : 125000 tons Bertrandite, 90000 tons Gallite, 88500 tons Indite, 32000 tons Silver, 11500 tons Gold, 10000 tons Samarium, 4100 tons Palladium, 1200 tons Platinum, 650 tons Painite)
- Cargo hold at maximum capacity (self-explanatory)
- Collector Limpet - failed (collided with one of the thousands of rocks floating all around the 1.5 Million Ton superfragment extracted from the Planet)

:D

I can still see that within a few weeks this would kill the game.

what happens to the star system once all the planets are destroyed, do they respawn after a set amount of time?
at least with belt mining its easier for them to respawn in recourses as the asteroid itself doesn't disappear.

Although it's not exactly what the OP was asking, it's interesting to note that "Can I destroy planets?" was one of the earliest Kickstarter FAQs. The wannabe Tarkins have been here for a while.

Though I do like the idea of Dead Space style planet cracking mining ships, I also agree that these would be abused and half the inhabited galaxy would be destroyed in a matter of days if left in the hands of CMDRs.

But, I would love to see broken planets in space - to come across them while exploring - planets that have been destroyed while forming by collision with another large body, similar to what happened to earth to make the moon. And maybe ones that are cold and dead, that failed to re-form.

Maybe in the bubble, planet crackers could be NPC ships like capital ships, or crewed for the sole purpose of doing large scale mining missions.
