Planet Nomads

Something here I've been following for a while. Very much like Space Engineers, but it does look interesting, there is enough in there to be different. Space Engineers has got it pretty much covered for this type of game, for me, so it needs to be a little different to get past that 'its a copy' sort of feel. This doesn't feel like that from the teaser here. More for the survival aspect I feel perhaps, although that may be coming to SE too. But yes, I'll probably back this in January when it goes to KS. The building editor is free at the moment and can be downloaded to help players get used to building things. Its a little restricted to be honest. But I think they have something here and they have been on the project for quite a while now.

Greetings commanders,

I already backed the project, but I think they won't reach their founding target.

Hopefully the game will get more attention in the next 16 days.

I also backed this kickstarter after seening it on reddit couple of weeks ago.

I checked today and I see has made it to its goal! :)

Its now funded and moving along to the first stretch goal. It looks promising and the new video looks great, although very short. ;)

New journal type thing going on. Looks like they are making good progress.
Of course the competition is going to be hard to beat. But the more the merrier.

Well Planet Nomads goes into Alpha next Thursday, so I'm looking forward to playing that too. They seem to have made some really nice improvements over what was shown earlier in the KS & also in the editor (free), available for quite some time previous to KS.
So as said, looking forward to that too. Its getting real busy in space (games) now.. Which is good. :)

Snap - I'm an alpha backer as well. We seem to like the same games [up]

Blimey !

Count me aboard the hype train - will follow this and most likely order after release (though I play Rust [alpha] so depending upon how good it looks ..)

Sadly for them in that video you linked at 2:20 it looks just like No Mans Sky ... I actually thought it was a spin off for a moment until I saw the welding weapon

It has a lot in common with Empyrion Galactic Survival and with Space Engineers, too. If Planet Nomads does do multiplayer as eventually planned, it may well be in the same style as these games.

It's interesting that so many survival/crafting/exploration games with a space theme are coming out now, but not surprising, I guess, as the survival genre in general has been very popular lately. Each has its own flavour, but there are major similarities. Take on Mars may also develop along these lines as well, although it is very much in its own niche.

The massive hype around NMS has probably done Craneballs Studio a favour by taking them out of the spotlight, and they may well pick up some players who are dissatisfied NMS.

Thanks for these tips about Space simulation games, very interesting :)

looks very interesting for sure, I will keep an eye on this project, I always love the idea of being stranded and need to survive in space.

Can you actually get off this planet and go to another one to start building there?

Not in the alpha. It's specifically a test of the mechanics, biome generation and building.

They have made a good start, the alpha is solid and although limited at the moment it shows that the game has real promise. There were some problems that were reported immediately and these have already been addressed. They need to work on the physics engine IMHO as the models can have an odd feel to them. Not enough "weight" - vehicles slide around a bit and have an amusing habit of bouncing on an impact instead of crashing. All alpha stuff that will be seen to. The core concepts are strong. No survival or crafting mechanics as yet, so it's very sandboxy and does not have the sense of being a "game" yet.
