Planet Rollercoasters influence on Elite Dangerous

Do you think the "game engine" of the new upcomeing game of FD Rollercoaster Planet will have influence's on how later possible crouds of people are generated on planets?
Will code be reused and take a flow into Elite Dangerous?

If they are software engineering rather than just programming almost all projects should create a a library of growing classes for reuse, such is the power of object orientated languages: abstraction, inheritance, polymorphism, and encapsulation.

So I suspect yes. Although there are some shoddy practices in the IT industry and I've seen some terrible coding at many of the blue chip companies I've worked for. ;)

Why not integrate "Planet Rollercoaster" as an expansion in the Elite universe - if you own that game then there's a permit protected planet you get access to...

I was thinking Crowds of people as well!!!

Thre are also environmental effects, Sky, Sun, weather?

I think there was a post about procedural generated clouds in planetcoaster and that FDev might test code and effects for atmospheric planets in Planet Coaster.

If that's true I wouldn't be surprised if FDev reuses more of the Planet Coaster code for ED :)

There is loads of stuff from Planet Rollercoaster that fits very well with populated cities coming down the line:
NPC crowd movement, AI, context-awareness
NPC animations
Terrain types, different biomes
Terrain deformation caused by architecture
Modular buildings
Road grids
Dynamic texturing
Clouds (somebody said they are fully dynamic) and weather effects

All the pieces are coming together for the generation of populated planetside cities! Station interiors will benefit as well.

My dream would be that FD released tools for building and uploading cities and settlements. We'd have thousands of different layouts in no time, from backwaters to megacities. FD would of course have to check for cities and areas shaped like genitalia, but it would still be much faster than having the designers make them. It could be a beta perk. I'd love to visit a city I'd designed. :D

Planet Coaster, P-L-A-N-E-T C-O-A-S-T-E-R

Whenever I see the title I think about drinks mats. What an odd idea for a game.

Anyhow - Terrain shaping allowing overhangs in there is cool too, overhangs means caves. Caves means all sorts of potential.

Also, as others have mentioned crowd simulation.

That's a great idea :D

Who can say, but I doubt there will be too much given that PC looks to use voxels and ED does not.

What I can say is that Alpha-3 is looking pretty blooming fab, and it's really coming together nicely!!

Quick - put that in the Suggestions Forum.... It's a really great idea! :D

This is why E:D WILL succeed. Their IP will be used for many titles which will feed back into development for their core IP.
As long as they keep developing other titles alongside E:D their IP will continue to grow and their existing IP will be able to be reused for many other titles creating a great feedback loop which will hopefully keep everything sustaining nicely.

The future is bright!
