planet scanning

Well I almost always get the efficiency bonus when scanning with the DSS for smaller planets if that's what you mean? Unless I'm being careless. Although if I bother with a gas giant then "willy nilly" is probably my approach once I've passed the efficiency point of the huge number of probes needed.

does anyone play the mini game of x amount of limpets to get the scan,or like me fire willy nilly untile complete, lol and i always get it,bit of fun.
I first fire three (3) probes, at three (3) equidistant points of the circle around the planet, at maximum distance that will not result in a Miss. Then I fire a fourth probe directly into the center of planet's face that is facing toward me. For small to medium-sized planets this usually gets me to 100%. o7

Ddo you have a scanner with expanded probe radius?

It's worth doing, you can rarely miss efficiency targets with these unless a gas giant has rings in the way!

I'm picky as to what Planets get scanned. I only scan ELW, WW & Ammonia Worlds......& even then only if I'm first to scan them. Though when out on Expedition I will Scan other bodies, should I want to land for Bioforms on the surface.

I have my own method which gets me the efficiency bonus 95-98% of the time.

I have patterns for the smaller planets, which will get the bonus every time. For the gas giants I approach in the plane of the rings so they don't get in the way.

I agree with BottomHat, having expanded probe radius makes it quite difficult to mess up

Got myself the pimped scanner... makes life much easier. And yes, I try to be better than the number which is displayed :D
