Planet / star colors in FSS weird

I would think this to be reported already, but I didn't find an issue in the Issue Tracker for it, so I reported my own.

The issue is this:
In the Full Spectrum Scanner (FSS) the colors for some planet types changed to the worse (in my opinion) in Odyssey.
  • Water worlds used to be blue (logical), now they are red (weird).
  • Brown dwarf stars (Y, L, ...) used to be purple (logical, close to their apparent color when viewed in space), now they are blue (weird).
  • Icy worlds used to be gray (logical), now they are yellow (weird).
I don't see any improvement here, I would vote for returning the same coloring as used to be in Horizons.

At least the Earth-like worlds are still green!

Well, it's just a colour code, clearly labelled. Makes no practical difference either way. Each to his own I guess.

Yeah, I'm also just curious is it just me (and some minority) thinking that the old colors were better, in which case, fine, good that majority thinks it an improvement. But in case the new colors are more widely considered less intuitive than the new ones, maybe FDev could consider reverting that change. And even if not, well, at least I'd have sated my curiosity in knowing what others think about it.

And of course in the grand scheme of things and with all the more serious issues Odyssey has, this is really a drop in the ocean, but for me it is an annoyance. Especially as I'm (at least currently) far in the black and almost all I do in the game is either watch the jump animation or watch the FSS screen scanning systems.

FSS bodies color changes are bugging me alot.
I assumed it's related to the current generic lighting issues and i watched every patch to see if they get fixed... but to no avail :(

I think they wanted to troll us!

The previous colour coding made more sense thematically, but so long as the convention remains consistent, who cares if ELW are black and red dwarfs are blue or whatever?
(Not that I wouldn't mind they reverted to the previous scheme!)

I'm having a complete blackout trying to remember, but I'm 99.9% sure you can see those colour codings elsewhere in the game and they still carry the Horizons colours.

Perhaps in the orrery view? Haven't paid too much attention myself. 🤔

I was testing oddity out this weekend and noticed it and thought the same thing..surely they will fix those colors eventually but they're supposed to be like that?

I see this is still the same after Update 9. No surprise since it's a small issue, but the Issue Tracker item was marked as "Expired". That is a bit annoying that they don't even acknowledge an item which should be easily reproducible in minutes. I put a second attempt of the same issue up at https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/46088 - let's see what happens to that :).

Maybe I should also try to ping @sallymorganmoore in the hopes of getting some attention. And yes, this is a low priority item, but at least acknowledgement would be nice, even if it falls down the priority ladder to not be actually fixed.

I get that this bugs you, but out of all the issues, this is the last one on the list of things to fix. There's gameplay mechanics not working at all for one.

And here's a counter-point: I've played Odyssey for so long that I'm now used to the new colors, so changing them would make the experience of people who are used to it.

Yeah, I know. And honestly, while I'd like this fixed, it isn't really of course that big an issue. It's just that I'd like someone (in FDev) to admit / acknowledge that it IS an issue. Or a design decision, which is of course also possible. I'd like to hear someone say either:
a) "We actually changed this on purpose, because we think it's better this way, and it'll stay like that." - In which case, fine, I can live with it.
or
b) "Indeed there has been a bug/accident/whatever causing this change unintentionally." -Then the follow-up to that comment could be either "we'll add it to the bottom of our long list of issues to fix at some point" or "it's too minor to consider fixing, we'll close it", and again I'd be fine with either of these.

But to not provide any kind of response and just close (expire) it off is a bit annoying.

And regarding your counter-point, I agree in that I was hoping that this could be fixed relatively early, since of course the longer the time goes with this, then the more people get used to the current situation and then a change might feel odd for players already used to the new colors.

So yeah, I'll leave this issue be for now, it just would have been nice (also to satisfy my curiosity) to get some info on the background of this issue (on-purpose-change or defect?) and to get the feeling that someone actually takes note of the issues made via the tracker.

I guess I'm a pretty happy player in the sense, that I don't actually experience any gameplay mechanics issues or other more severe bugs now. Just my Issue Tracker track record is a bit depressing in the sense that I've reported in total 9 issues, of which 1 (in Odyssey Alpha) got fixed, but all the rest have "expired" without ever any FDev comments even on any of them.

But - time to stop whining and continue playing! Thanks FDev anyway for the great game!

I am of the same opinion as you, I had somewhat created a subject here.

If you have the same bug, please confirm it here
