Planet Surface Markers Please!

This request has been made my many many pilots. A way to mark a location on a planet so you can find it again later. Otherwise it takes me a lot longer than it should to find the Canyon I want to race in. Could be a "Location Limpet" that transmits a signal to the pilot. Could expire or slowly lose signal due to battery usage or some such. I really don't care. I just want to be able to find locations on planets again!

I'd rather have it as a personal bookmark in your ship.
No need to have some silly artificial construct like location limpets or anything.
What next do we need? Alarm clock Limpets? Notification Limpets?

You land there, you mark it, and your ship saves the coordinates. Oh forget that immersion bull.

Your game saves the coordinates as a bookmark, just like how you have systems bookmarked.
Next time you're around, and the game proc gens the star system or planets up, it runs a check against your bookmark database, finds the planet marker, and then simply apply it to the planet post procgen.

maybe, despite the advance technology we're supoded to be using in-game, CMDR's must be expected to write co-ordinates on post-it notes...?

So. How about Post-It notes as cockpit dashboard decorations...?

I'd actually be happy with a either of a beacon, or a bookmark solution

I was trying to make it more fun by requiring equipment. However I realize many players are cheap and lazy and would rather just have things done for them automatically. I actually don't care HOW it is done, just as long as it IS POSSIBLE!

I have a nice little Star Wars notebook/pen next to my keyboard (though I'm playing XBOX so the keyboard unfortunately gets used less than the notebook) for writing down coordinates or various pieces of information/reminders. I don't mind that part so much but I would like to be able to place a mark at some coordinates and be able to navigate to them.

yes. this should be a THING

There are some worlds without any kind of station or point of interest, I've found it makes it rather easy to end up going in circles. This would solve that easy.

+1

I've wanted this for ages. Seen it posted lots of times.

Pretty sure they won't let us do it any time soon, though.

The problem is, people would try to use it to mark minor surface POIs for coming back to later. Meteorites, barrel stashes, crashed fighters, probes, beacons, escape pods, all that kinda thing. And these objects ain't persistent. They won't be there when you get back.

While some might want to mark certain craters or scenic viewpoints or whatever, the most intuitive, obvious use-case, that most people will immediately try to use it for, simply won't work. It would immediately draw huge attention to a big fat limitation of the game, which is currently obscured most of the time by the sheer scale of everything.

So it's not as simple as the game saving a planet name and a set of coordinates somewhere. FDev have this huge restriction to overcome before it's reasonable to implement. I have no idea how hard it would be to make every interesting bit of rock and detritus persistent, but I bet it's a lot more work than just the marker bit.

It's something I would really, really love for them to do, though.
