Planet surface quality is low despite graphic settings on ultra

Hi All,

Planets' surface looks terrible despite Ultra settings setup.
Please see attached screenshots - this is Moon surface on Ultra.

I can see folks posting beautiful screenshots, therefore I assume there is some kind of a problem with my client.
Searching this issue didn't give me much.

Did anyone run into similar problem?

It looks for some reason as though the textures just haven't popped in yet. I do get it occasionally on landable planets, where I have to actually land first in order for the textures to render properly.
Is that as close as you can get? It might be worth trying to drop out into the exclusion zone and seeing if that makes any difference. I am guessing that relogging doesn't change anything.

as for hi res screen shots alt f10 has a sharpening effect over lesser standard screen shots
other than ensuring drivers are up to date and maybe deleting the gpu worktable.xml
in the products folder just in case itsa cache thing not much you can do really methinks

Just out of interest, and probably the first question that should be asked, what system are you running the game on?
MSI GS75: Intel Core i7-9750H, Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti 6Gb, 16GB DDR4, SSD
I made sure drivers are up to date, there are no issues with other games whatsoever.

I once had a low texture issue with planet surfaces after a game update - I solved it by setting and applying preset-Low, then bumping everything back up again.
Just tried it, unfortunately it didn't help.

Yes, it is. Unfortunately it doesn't.

Deleted it, launched again, no effect :(
Also tried to increase Terrain Work in graphic quality settings to max and relog, no effect - see attached screenshot.

Maybe this is how Moon surface is supposed to look like?
Could someone post their screenshots for comparison?

Ah - I’ve just realised that’s our Moon you’re looking at.

That’s a non-landable body so not subject to the fixes that have been mentioned. It’s like the textures on other worlds that we can’t visit yet. There is a setting to increase the clarity on those textures, if I remember correctly, but someone else will have to point you at the correct files to alter. I’ll not be back in-game for another 12 hours or so, but I’ll pop over to Sol for a photo.

Clear your shader caches and delete the game's GpuWorkTable.xml file.

Non-landable bodies don't behave precisely the same way, but they should not look like mud.

lets hope in odyssey our luna gets the TLC it deserves we probably wouldn't even exist without it
but beware the judderman when the moon is fat ;)
truly fascinating that it rings like a bell when struck according to NASA

Greetings,

OP I'm using an Intel Core i7 and the exact same video card. It's an awesome card by the way. My settings match the graphics you posted (although there are a lot more of them). Here's a picture from Oct 2018. Notice the station is sharp while the planet is 'so so'. Of course Frontier may have improved upon this (or not!) with a later update. I also find some planets are sharper while others not so much so maybe the texture math is not the same for every planet. Seems reasonable not to waste polygons if not really needed.

Here is the Earth and the Moon I just took a few minutes ago in your same 2560 x 1440 rez. Pop over to SOL (or any earth like world) and see if yours compare. Note I took them while flying in Open mode! No live player scares me. :)

Meanwhile if you are surrounded by lots of excellent looking ships in your favorite 'shoot first and ask questions later' zone I'd guess it is more about how Frontier designs planet textures and your gear is working fine.

Regards

Looks like it's already been answered, but here are my pictures anyway - looks okay in VR apart from some large texture seams:

...and a zoomed in view from a hires screenshot - this gives a better idea of what I see in-helmet, just with more aliasing :)

your gears fine its planet rendering thats crap, they all look the same, crap lol, hopefully odyssey will change that a little
