Planet tech compromise

There are many people that love (somehow) the new planet tech, there are also many that don't.
It wouldn't be really that big of a problem if the Horizons was left alone after the console release, current plans are different though.
Forcing new tile/stamp tech on everybody. How about a compromise then?

Horisons: don't change a thing.

Odyssey:
Keep the old Horizons planet tech for airless planets/moons,
add the new Odyssey tech for atmospheric worlds only.

Everybody wins, we still will have our unrealistic but fun mountains and canyons as well as the new stuff at the same time. More variety in general.

Just don't tell me it can't be done, it's pretty clear that the Cobra engine is pretty modular - I mean they stitched an FPS module to it just now, haven't they?

I think you'll find that Cobra has had first person elements for some time, as it is the engine used in their other projects - which, oddly enough, all have some kind of bipedal lifeforms.

I like some elements of the new tech, but not others. I rather suspect that what we will end up with is something between what we get now in EDO and EDH.. No, I don't think that will please everyone, but I'll live with it.

That's not a compromise, that's cutting your baby in half and claiming one half of it will be fine. Solomon would throw you out of the palace.
You can't run two types of world generation effectively. You'd double the code base and quadruple the maintenance effort.

So x number of billion worlds would be generated by system A, and y number of billion worlds generated by system B.

And they would be integrated together into one game by ........... magic?

Looking around the forums...

Don't we have already at least a dozen of these threads asking the same and getting nowhere so far?

Just one thought: How would you handle the case with a Horizons player and Odyssey player instanced together on the same planet? Both planet techs generate vastly different topography, so the planets don't look anything alike most of the time.

Get you and your logic - We'll have none of that around here - away with you!
