Planet Wreckage?!

I saw this at this planet. It made me think. Is this from player activity or preset... Then I thought that could be one of two things. Either a previous vehicle died and left wreckage.(I'm in solo. So, possibly cross game info sharing for player crash sites.) or Is it possible it's the probe I used to probe the planet? Or do these potentially appear on planets that have been probed or something of similar function? Not that they are easy to find. I have been driving quite while to run into this.

Either way, does anyone know what these are? Should I take note of it and bookmark it or something?

It would not let me scan it or anything. So, I have no idea of what significance it may or may not have.

Nothing really, it's just ambience, I have been seeing stuff like this since horizons launched, it will be gone next time you visit the same spot so don't bookmark.

Sadly it's just the RNG generating minor points of interest for you, nothing to write home about. Would be excellent if the game engine *did* create POIs based on actual crashes in addition, with scannable/sellable wreckage!

Not sure it's always just "random".

I think the game spawns the POIs for various "inbox misions" and then, even if you don't accept the mission - or don't even get offered it - the POI is there to be found.

Speaking as somebody who's done a lot of "tip-offs", I've often (relatively speaking) stumbled across wreckage that, upon investigation, contains a data-core which gives me the "You don't have the correct decryption key for this data" message, indicating that it's related to some mission other than the one you're doing.

Presumably the same holds true for "black box" and "cryopod" inbox-missions, the only difference being that there's nothing to stop you collecting those things, even though you aren't collecting them for a mission.

On a related note, while doing a tip-off mission, I just discovered this on a planet, near to the crashed spaceship I was looking for.
Never seen "wreckage" like this before, and it included cargo racks containing potato radios.

If it's on mars is it some homage to that movie where the guys survives on mars?

Either way, it's on a red planet. Could be related.

I think that's actually the other way around. FD manually insert these permanent POIs into the game; then, you might randomly get given missions to go to them.

It's not Mars - Mars in ED is a terraformed Earth-like planet, which we can't currently land on. It's just a generic red planet, with nothing particularly noteworthy or significant about the colour.

Quick way to tell if your POI is "permanent" or not: log off, and log back in again. A permanent POI will still be there. A non-permanent RNG POI will vanish.

NPC wreckage solo player. NPC wreckage.

But yeah, it's one of those things that just "happen".

I've seen pretty much everything from a buried corner of something to full-scale abandoned facility, a wrecked sidewinder to a burned out husk of an SVR to a nearly intact anaconda, and thargoid ships (those were placed though).

Nah,

The POI's aren't (always) persistent.

Some wreckage is definitely just wreckage but then you'll also find POIs which are definitely the ones spawned by "recovery" missions.
When I find those I sometimes wonder if I should hang around, just so I can give somebody a jump-scare when they show up there. :p

Pre 3.3 I spent a lot of time surface prospecting for materials out in the deep, way outside of the bubble.

I came across an unreasonable number of crashed ships and debris, including occupied escape pods. The odds of encountering anything so far out is slight, but it keeps it varied.

They were never there after a relog.

I always felt bad about the escape pods, as I could never carry them due no or insufficient hold. I kinda wish you'd get a small token in transactions to cash in for a nominal amount to salvage brokers with their location (and I guess the POI becomes persistent for you while you have it in transactions).
