Planet Zoo 5th anniversary

With the summer DLC being released later than usual this year, I think it's possible that Frontier will prepare at the same time some content to be released a bit later for the 5th anniversary. Of course, it's also possible that we don't get anything for the anniversary, but let's be optimistic for once. What would you like to get for the 5th anniversary?

I have a theory:

The lemur represented Africa
The red deer represented mainly Europe and Asia (and a little of Africa too)
The collared peccary represented North and South America

So my theory is that the following anniversary animal could represent Oceania, which only had 1 animal in the base game and could need a boost in the base roster. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised if we get the grey kangaroo, the yellow footed wallaby or the perentie as the anniversary gift. What are your thoughts?

Another variant of my theory is that the red deer could be considered to be the European representative only and we could get the Blackbuck as the Asian representative, leaving Oceania waiting for another year.

From all the dlc exclusive animal types, a macropod and a penguin are easily the ones most iconic as zoo animals in general.
Between them id say that a macropod would be nicer, as a basic grey kangaroo or wallaby would skyrocket basegame oceanias useability and offer a neat alternative for those that allready have everything. Oceania could really use the extra fluff for variety as right now regarding the topic choice for options there is basicly none.

I don't think we are getting a penguin since all penguins are DLC content at the moment. The same thing applies for macropods. They are popular animals that probably bring in sales for their respective packs.

But i do see us getting a bird (or even two animals? if it is the last anniversary could be possible)

As for birds we might get i think american flamingo and greater rhea are the most likely since they have the base clones for them in the game already and don't compete with any other birds in DLCs like the black swan does. Seeing how important was the swan for the Eurasia pack appeal i doubt they'll add a swan in base game roster. Pheasant might also be an option with the peafowl already in base game as well, but they've never done anything that complex and visually striking for anniversary so far.

I guess among reptiles nile crocodile, perentie and african spurred tortoise are all possible since they won't be as popular by themselves in a DLC but they do have base models in the base game that they could be cloned from and at the same time all of them represent something that is missing from the roster as a whole and that is deemed as essential when we refer to reptiles: an african croc, an australian monitor and a midium size habitat tortoise.

Another option is a bear either spectacled or american black then getting the remaining bear in the upcoming DLC and thus completing the bear species ingame with two of the most iconic and important ones left.

I agree with you, but my only question is then why the red deer? All deer added to the game have also all been dlc animals.
True but reindeer and Moose are distinctive and iconic enough on their own to not compete with the red deer (plus they fill completly a different niche and all three allows for very different uses and kind of habitats you build for them, plus they represent different biomes and parts of the world) and the fallow deer won't be a turning point for someone that is wondering to Buy or not the Europe pack. The lynx and the ibex are the Star animals of that DLC but really the true strong feature and what i think brings sales for the Europe pack are the building pieces.

Personally i like the idea of the anniversary animals adding something to that dont have much in the basegame.
The basegame has literally no european animals (well except the flamingo which is debateable) and no deer, so the red deer was definetly a great addition to it.
North and south america also only a very small handfull of animals and only the warthog in terms of swine like animals, making the peccary a nice option to throw a bone to both.

So giving one to oceania would definetly fit into this. Personally i think something like a black swan or magpie goose would be wonderfull, adressing both the abyssmal amount of oceanian animals and birds in the basegame aswell as being just nice additions in general.
But doing a second for SA would also be welcome, squirrel monkey is the first thing that comes to my mind here as the basegame doesnt have any tailed monkey

I've doubts there's an intentional pattern. Blackbuck also seems maybe a little too popular to be free.

There is at least one DLC with relevance in the year leading to each anniversary, (Africa before the lemur, Europe before the Deer & Tropical before the Peccary), so my guess is simple stuff they considered briefly for a DLC and kept in mind for later.

By that theory, it'd be Eurasia or Barnyard relevant, maybe stuff like Bharal, Himalayan Tahr, Goitered Gazelle, or Banteng from Eurasia, and stuff like Zebu, Kunekune, African dwarf goat or Horses/Clydesdales from Barnyard.

Thinking about it, horse drawn carriages/trams are tied to Clydesdales, so that'd be an interesting side feature/object if they got added.

I mean we got the peccary last yeah which was also pretty highly requested, so i think the blackbuck is definetly possible.

Personally i really hope it’s either a monkey or bird. Birds especially have so many cool options for an anniversary animal
TBH birds are easily the best option for lower effort filler animals for an anniversary. If I was in control of Frontier for the anniversary I would add 5 birds. Each one for each year of development.

  1. American flamingo
  2. Greater Rhea
  3. Golden pheasant
  4. Magpie goose
  5. Rockhopper penguin
Each of these guys wouldn’t interrupt dlc animals too much, with the first 3 all having base game equivalents so it would diversify the base game roster a good amount. The final two options are a bit more out there but hear me out. The magpie goose is a great waterfowl to represent Oceania, and being a goose people will still feel like they want to get the swan. So in that way I don’t think it would stop sales, it also saves something like a pelican or duck for a dlc. Likewise the rockhopper penguin is different enough from the other three penguins I don’t think it would cause an issue with sales.
