Hello fellow Zookeepers!

As we've come to the end of the month, it's time for our April Catch Up, where we make sure you're up-to-date on all Planet Zoo!

Did you know, we announced Planet Zoo on 24 April, 2019, which means it's been a whole year since we first announced! We hope you've enjoyed a year of Planet Zoo; here's to the future of the game, we hope you'll join us for it!

This month, we've had a busy April with our community, announcing and launching Update 1.2 and South America Pack! We hope you've been enjoying the free Update 1.2 and the DLC since we released on 7 April. In case you missed it, Update 1.2 introduced a range of new features, such as new Difficulty Settings, the ability to see the Genealogy of your animals, the Guest Education Management tab, and more! If you'd like to read up on everything Update 1.2 brought to the game, you can read it all here. With the South America Pack, we welcomed five new animals to the game: the wonderful Red-eyed Tree Frog, the mischievous Capuchin Monkey, the unique Giant Anteater, the friendly Llama, and the beautiful Jaguar! Not only that, but the Pack includes over 250 scenery and building pieces, which are sure to inspire you to build bigger and better than ever before. You can read about the South America Pack here!

Since then, we've updated the game with fixes thanks to all the helpful feedback we get from our community, including the Issue Tracker reports and save files that have been emailed in. We are currently on Update 1.2.3, so make sure your game is completely up-to-date! We announce all updates on our forums, social media and Steam, so turn notifications on where you can to make sure you never miss out on the latest news!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the team have all be working at home for a month now, which has meant we're not able to do regular streams at the moment.. However, you can still join the team for streams and activities every week! All you need to do is check the forums every Monday, as we post a Weekly Schedule of where you can find us and fun things you can join in on. The Weekly Schedules are located in the Frontier section of the forums. We recommend joining the Twitch and YouTube chats of any of the streams we're in, as you can ask us any questions about Planet Zoo while having some fun with your fellow community, all while watching a creative content creator who will definitely help you come up with some new ideas and get you inspired.

Earlier this month, we announced the winner and runners up of our Poster Pro competition! We asked our community to come up with a poster that would be sure to have guests racing to your zoo in no time, and the community came up with some super creative posters! Our judges panel definitely had a difficult time choosing their favourites, but the winner was Rachel with this poster:

If you'd like to see our top 10 entries, which include Rachel's awesome poster above, you can view them here. Feeling inspired? Awesome, we have a competition running right now!

Our Ancient Animal Kingdom competition was heavily influenced by the South America Pack (although you don't need it to take part). We're asking our community to create habitats that look like they were once lived in by ancient civilisations; places that have since been lost to nature, allowing wildlife to take over. With this competition, we're in pursuit of large, run-down buildings, lots of foliage and animals that aren't afraid to take back nature. Think you can create just what we're after? Read all the details of the competition here!

April had three special days that we wanted to highlight on our Planet Zoo channels: Zoo Lover's Day, Annual Earth Day and Save the Elephant Day! Zoo Lover's Day being in the same month that we announced Planet Zoo is a happy coincidence on our part! Zoos can be a wonderfully enriching place for us to learn about the animals we share our planet with, and they can help keep the population of at risk animals thriving. Which zoo is your favourite to visit? For Annual Earth Day this year, the theme this year was 'Climate Action'. Climate change affects all life on earth, and is something we should all be vigilant about! This was the 50th Anniversary of Annual Earth Day! Finally, Save the Elephant Day was a day we used to highlight the incredible species. Due to poachers, Elephants are globally at risk. Let's help Elephants live long, happy lives and thrive by being vigilant about products we buy, where possible!

Speaking of Elephants, have you checked out the San Diego Zoo live cams? You can watch your favourite animals, from Pandas to Tigers, get up to all sort of mischief in their habitats. The Elephant cam is proudly sponsored by us, so check it out if you get the chance!

As we come to the end of our April Catch Up, let's end it like we always do by looking back at all the Zoopedia Facts we learnt this month:
  • The Giant Anteater may visit 200 ant nests and eat up to 30,000 insects in a day.
  • The Capuchin Monkey is named after Capuchin monks, who wore long hooded robs that covered all but their face, similar to the pattern of the white-faced Capuchin Monkey’s fur.
  • Unlike other grazing animals, Llamas' tongues are attached in a way that means they cannot stick them out.
  • The animals known as 'Black Panthers' are actually Jaguars with a rare colour morph.
  • Despite their bright coloration that may be perceived as a warning to predators, Red-eyed Tree Frogs are not poisonous.
  • Giant Anteaters have no stomach acid, instead using the formic acid made by the ants they eat to digest their food.
  • Male llamas are called ‘studs’, female llamas are called ‘dams’ and baby llamas are called ‘crias’.

Take care of yourselves, our wonderful PlanZo Fam. We will see you next month!

The adult jaguar really looks amazing, and the new plants are great too, thank you!!
(but the monkey's food texture at 0.41 really needs to be fixed 😅)
