Planet Zoo habitat species present in New Zealand zoos

As noted in discussions around the Oceania Pack, New Zealand has strict biosecurity regulations and this limits the animals which can be held in zoos.

I keep a list of habitat species included in the game which can be found in New Zealand zoos for my own reference and will share it here. Hopefully it will be helpful if people want to build realistic zoos.

I didn’t include exhibit animals but the main point to remember is that there are no snakes in New Zealand, including zoos.

If anyone has any updates or corrections feel free to join the conversation.

Notes

• The giraffe in New Zealand are Rothschild’s and hybrids
• There are domestic water buffalo
• I’ve just included chimpanzees and lions in the list as I figure the in-game subspecies are close enough.
• As noted in the list, the main New Zealand zoos have Sumatran tigers but there are a couple of “Bengal”/generic zoo tigers.
• Some species such as scimitar-horned oryx and caracal were kept until very recently so could justifiably be included in a realistic build. A full list is included in the Zoochat discussions.

What animals from the game are common in Australia and New Zeland zoo?

I always build my zoos around Mexico and its zoo culture, and although I don't usually build realistically in terms of the animals available, I would like to have as a base which animals I can use to fit better with the region of Oceania better, also taking advantage of the new tempered map I...

I always forget Pouakai Zoo even exists.

there are a couple of “Bengal”/generic zoo tigers.

Are there? I suppose that Zion park might have them. Pouakai Zoo also had white tigers from Zion but I'm not sure if they do anymore.

Also, last I heard, Orana still has scimitar-horned oryxes but they keep them off-display.

If your goal is to build a realistic NZ zoo, though, I'd include species that were successfully bred here like the sable antelope and oryx.

Also, Kelly Tarlton's Aquarium keeps and breeds king penguins.
