Hello everybody!
Welcome to the first Planet Zoo monthly catch up! We will take this time to reflect on the month and talk about any news you may have missed.
May has been a busy month for Planet Zoo!
We shared our first Developer Journal, where you got to meet Producer Felix Von Wolfersdorf, Gameplay Lead James Lockett and Senior Environment Artist Joanne Taylor and have a read about what they do here in the studio.
Our second Developer Journal, which was posted to the forums later in the month, featured Programmer Megan Brown and Senior Designer David Bamber, who spoke about how to manage animal behaviours.
Planet Zoo has been in development for the last two years and the team finally get to talk about the game! They have a lot of information that they would like to share with you, but we will reveal more about Planet Zoo over the coming months. Stay tuned for the next Developer Journal!
Planet Zoo was spoken about in our Frontier Xtra, a stream where the Community Managers across Frontier's games come together and share news, community creations and more over the past month.
You can watch May's Frontier Xtra here!
We made the announcement that we will be appearing at E3's PC Gaming Show, where we will reveal the first gameplay trailer for Planet Zoo! Tune in on Monday 10 June at 5PM UTC at www.twitch.tv/pcgamer and show your support for the team in the chat!
Every Wednesday. we ask our community to vote on our polls for a Zoopedia fact, which are posted on Fridays! Please visit our hashtag #ZoopediaFacts on social media to get involved!
Our first Zoopedia fact was about the African Elephant: "African Elephants are excellent at dispersing seeds throughout the land. The plant and seeds that they eat are spread far and wide thanks to their dung."
Next, we got to find out more about our Grizzly Bear family. You liked meeting the adorable duo so much, they wanted to learn more about them and voted on the Grizzly Bear for a Zoopedia fact.
"Say hello to the Grizzly Bear: did you know that they can gain up to 180kg in weight when preparing for hibernation (which lasts between 5 and 7 months)?"
We thought it would be fun to play a game with our brilliant community, by asking you to guess how many Plain Zebras were in this picture! This proved to be a tough one, especially because of the Plains Zebras' patterns blending into the environment.
The answer was 10! There were a few hiding in the back, and many missed the Zebra perched on the hill. Did you guess it right?
But that's not the only challenge we had for you this month.
On World Turtle Day, we asked you to guess a new animal that you will be able to care for within your zoo. We had correct responses immediately: the Giant Galapagos Tortoise! This creature will be making its way to Planet Zoo this Fall.
We believe that Endangered Species Day is an important day to highlight, as modern zoos play a huge role in the animal conservation process, teaching and inspiring visitors about wildlife and the importance of preserving natural habitats.
African Elephants, which were once endangered, are now classed vulnerable thanks to conservation efforts!
Endangered Species Day falls on 17 May and there's always ways to get involved! Find out more here!
This month, we also released two screenshots of Planet Zoo that hadn't been seen before.
These two screenshots have been picked apart in analysis videos and social posts, and we can't wait to reveal things you may not have noticed is included in these pictures. Not long to go!
That's all for this month's catch up! Stay tuned to our social channels and forums to find out more about Planet Zoo!
