Planet Zoo: Pre Sale Questions

Hello! I am interested in Planet Zoo. But I am unsure which edition I should buy:

1. Base Game
2. Base Game + Deluxe
3. Base Game + Arctic Pack

Question 1: Arctic Pack is going to have any further content launch since a lot of people have been saying that content is very less compared to what they are asking it for (price)?

Question 2: Should I get the Base Game and wait for the sale next-time to buy just DLCs in discounted prices?

Question 3: Should I get the Base Game + Deluxe and wait for the sale next-time to buy just DLCs in the discounted prices?

Question 4: Is there any multiplayer game now in the Planet Zoo?

Question 5: Is there any sandbox mode in this game now?

P.S.: It is quite understandable that Frontier is known to have multiple DLCs over-the-time and they make their DLCs cheaper over-the-time (same thing they did with JWE and Planet Coaster).

Thanks.

First up not sure Frontier had anything to do with City Skylines, but this game will have the same development model, so continued development over a period of time through DLC. The price of the DLC is subjective, some people (like me) only had an issue with it due to the timing, they only just released the game and that they didnt really have any 'new' animals. I still bought the pack and really like the content.

There isnt really any multiplayer which is a shame. There is a sandbox mode, I havent played it as i like the difficulty of franchise.

Hi! I totally agree with you. Since the game launched recently, it should have been gifted with free animals within the base-game as an update rather than launching DLC. You made the good point there to be honest.

Anyways, I think I will settle myself with the Deluxe Pack for now. But I'm still looking for the opinions. :)

There is little cost between the 3 packs at the moment, go for the one with everything in. If money is really tight then just go for the base game as you certainly don't need anything else to get hours of enjoyment and you can pick them up later if you like it. If you are investing £31 in this investing £37 for everything would be an easy choice for me at the current steam pricing.

The discount they are offering right now is the 10% which isn't that good for the Base + Arctic. I think in future, they might come up with some better discounts. I might buy the DLCs at that time. Moreover, by then. It might have better DLC options to buy from.

Probably, a new DLC might have better number of animals and content compared to what they have for Arctic (given that some people aren't happy with the content of the arctic right now).

If you aren’t dying to play with the arctic animals then I’d say just buy the base game and see how you get on, if you absolutely love it and want the arctic pack then get it, if not then I say wait until the pack goes on sale, which is what I will do.
I personally bought the deluxe pack, how ever I haven’t used any of the animals thus far that came with it in my franchise or sandbox zoo yet, so I haven’t yet bought the arctic pack as I feel it is just a little bit too soon to spend more money on the game, especially because I know I would use the polar bear and wolves, wouldn’t really use the sheep or reindeer. And yes I know 200 scenery items but I’m not the biggest of creative builders, so I probs would never need 150 of them. it doesn’t make me think any less of frontier, still think very highly of them and their game making skills, just in my personal opinion I would have had more respect if the arctic pack was a free pack to say hey, thanks everyone for buying the game, here’s 4 new animals, merry Xmas and then dlc after that can be paid for (pretty much like PlanCo did)

I've bought Planet Zoo Deluxe Edition. I will see for the DLCs in the next sale or upcoming.

You'll see more people complain than you will see people saying they are happy with it. That is just the way it normally is. Judge for yourself, not based on how others feel. I like the new DLC, I love the building pieces. The style really fits what I am building. I love the animals. I see people complain about 'reskins!!' but that is the way animals work. I'll give that the Arctic wolf is very similar to the wolf that is already in the game, but they are different animals and I'm happy to have both. The polar bear is a bear, all bears will have the same basic body plan but they are different. Some people will always see the similarities and say they are the same. Some see the differences. I am very much into animals so I love getting different species, even if they look similar. Of course I like some more than others. Read the packs, watch some videos and decide for yourself if you want the DLC or not.
I just wanted to add my opinion since I see so many people being negative about it. I'm not saying they are wrong, just wanted to add another side. To me, the DLC is worth it. I don't play the scenarios but the building pieces and animals are worth it to me.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying. Well, anyhow. I had to buy Jurassic World Evolution as well. So I bought Deluxe for both to see if both of them suits to me or not. If I like them, I'll buy the DLC in the next sale. They aren't running anywhere. Infact, they will be much cheaper than the current sale price for sure. (New year, new sales target, more competition among the DRMs).

Moreover, I'm not that much interested in the repeated animals. If Arctic DLC has animals which are similar to the base-game? I'll be waiting for more DLCs and choose whichever adds more unique animals. (I am not saying they are re-skinned but I'm not denying either)

I actually want to have the excitement and enjoyment of the Golden Era of Zoo Tycoon with this game with more challenging management and tasks.

  1. Unlikely. Based on how planet coaster worked, they will fix bugs/issues that exist within the DLC but they will move onto other DLC and not continue to expand on the released content.
  2. Your money is your money is your life. This is your call. I wouldn't hold your breath for a huge sale on all the DLCs or anything unless you are going to wait a year or more.
  3. Same answer as above. This is about how much money do you want to spend now. The pre-order bonus added less to the game than the artic dlc so would be lower on my list but still cool.
  4. You need to watch some youtube or read. There's franchise mode -- which is a multiplayer trading market.
  5. Yes, just like Planet Coaster.

its kinda funny. the game is out for around 6 weeks now and people are complaining its just on sale for 10%.

What do you expect? I preordered the deluxe edition, gave trust in frontier and just after a few weeks people should be able to get the game with a huge discount? It would really be an annoying treatment to all the players who supported the game before and since launch.

A huge discount early after a release is always a sign for disappointing amount of sales. So its pretty good that it isnt really necessary for Frontier to discount this game early after release.

Exactly this happened to Battlefield V for example. Im a huge fan of that series too. I preordered it for 60€ and a month after the disappointing launch the game was already on sale for 50%. This really p**** me off to be honest.

Totally loving the arctic pack, though I am disappointed it only had 4 new animals, I'm very happy with the game overall and happy with the pack despite the one thing I am disappointed with.

Even many of the people who will tell you to "wait" have played hundreds of hours of the game. Hundreds...of...hours. I'm sorry, but to me that screams that it's worth buying regardless of whatever complaints a person might have. Massively good value to get hundreds of hours of enjoyment out of any game.

Just mho, BUY IT, BUY IT NOW.

If you are looking for extra content with unique animals in it, the Deluxe pack kinda hits that mark with the Pygmy Hippo. But that pack only has 2 animals in it. I originally purchased it just to have access to the Beta and I do not regret it, the extra animals were a side benefit.

I haven't had a chance to play with the Arctic pack yet even though I purchased it since I want to finish the base game career mode first. But the sheep and the reindeer are pretty unique in my opinion, don't know why people are being mean to them lol. I like that the polar bear gives a unique challenge for its welfare and space requirements and the building theme looks fantastic. Even if you just use the pre-built blue prints they looks really nice.

Its perfectly find to wait for sales though if that makes you happy. I'm too impatient to wait personally and I suppose I am easier to please than most players.

People are hating on the sheep and Reindeer? I didn't know that....how can someone be mean to reindeer, right before Christmas!?

I agree with you on the pre-built blue prints in the arctic pack. They are really well done, the best pre-built from Frontier in the game imo. I might have some bias though, as I am a fan of that style of architecture.

I had a lot of fun laying in the Polar Bear habitat in the first career zoo (the only polar bears I've had in a zoo so far). I wanted to make sure my visitors could see the bears despite the size of the enclosure so I made it a long, rather narrow (40-50m or so) habitat and put a visitor path right down the middle, then used a combination of many techniques to make it so the bears couldn't actually get to the visitor path.
In part of it, I went up with the path and have it as a bridge over the polar bear's water, and in another part I dug down and built caves for the bears to sleep in underneath the visitor path. I even put 3 shops and a restroom smack dab in the middle of the habitat, and fenced it off with the arctic fencing.
It's the most open and accessible to visitors habitat I ever built, and I truly enjoyed making it. The visitors love it as well, obviously, seeing as they get to walk inside the habitat.
