Planet Zoo update

Not all animals in Planet Zoo have to be in a pack why not use this one as an update. I would love to have a meerkat in the game or Planet Zoo can do whatever they want for a new pack.

I hear you, I was really disapponted they didn't give us anything for free as a show of thanks for the anniversary (even though their other games got anniversary content)

The meerkat is also basically the most requested animal in the game. It wouldn't be a smart business decision to give away your most highly requested animal for free

I suppose you’re right it’s not a smart business idea but this would be an excellent animal to have in Planet Zoo

I can certainly see the logic in not including your most wanted animals for free, put them in a pack so that it sells. At the same time, releasing a white rhino and a meerkat (the two most requested animals, one a new unique rig and one a modification of an existing one), would generate a really great amount of goodwill for the lack of anything from the anniversary and mitigate the urgency many players may feel for an African pack, which if not for those two animals, probably wouldn't be as needed as soon. Granted, Frontier (or any business) isn't here to have goodwill, but to make money. But doing something like that doesn't hurt either, to keep players happy - which is somewhat needed to continue to generate that money. I could honestly see it going either way.

Out of curiosity - where do this idea come from?
If someone has kept a record of the most requested animals for PZ, I would enjoy taking a look at it. Also.. how do they know?

Have you seen this wonderful thread?

Thread '30 essential animals meta-wishlist' https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/30-essential-animals-meta-wishlist.561215/

It shows that African rhinos and meerkat are the most requested animals. It also shows that some North American and European animals are very popular.

Yep, I admit giving one free animal for the anniversary would have been a fantastic gesture. But straight up releasing numerous animals for free is quite extreme and doesn't make much sense.
I agree, we can complain about the animal roster only when the animals in the DLCs are more than the base ones

Hmm I am pretty sure Frontier would have saved meerkat for a DLC. Such high demand animal would be a seller of that said potentional DLC. Would also probably come with some special burrowing enrichment just as koala came with the tree feeder and anteater with the termitel mound.

Yep, it it would be perfectly okay for me if they do so, IMO. I am and will alwaays be for fair payment of Devs work.
However, i don't have high hopes for aburrowing system. IF the meerkats burro, they would probably just vanish in a whole from time to time without the player being able to follow them. Or the wholes would be enrichment items.

I would honestly prefer to have burrowing restricted to 5-6 good varieties of enrichment objects. Perhaps 4 different objects that are in the shape of boulders etc that allow them to run around in and below. And then an additional 2 that allow guests to poke their heads into and see inside the exhibit. I don’t even need to have a special animation for them crawling in or whatever, just make it a door on the size of the habitat and then they walk into it and teleport in or out. Could make it compatible with aardvarks and pangolins, maybe black-footed ferrets or prairie dogs if those are ever added

We could at least get two random animals one habitat, one exhibit for each update, preferably 2 habitat and 1 exhibit each update like for example, update 1.5, Binturong, Asian Tufted Capuchin, Inland Taipan, this is just an example

Again, people don't work for free. You cannot expect free animals on each major update. One sporadic clone animal for an anniversary? That would make sense. 2-3 free animals every 4 months? That's just asking for too much in my opinion. Some updates already add new content other than animals, too (not much, but still).
I agree. The anniversary is a different topic and I still believe that we should have been treated like the JWE or the PC community. But free animals on a 3 month base sounds way oo much for me. To be honest, in my opinion the FREE major updates offer enough already. But that's why I advocate for deeper, more meaningful features within a DLC (at a higher price point). I'd prefer the Devs have the actual time and resources to make gameplay more meaningful and that can only been achived by letting players pay for their work.

This is essentially what I've been envisioning for the burrowing animals - having several different shapes and sizes of hills of burrows for their shelter rather than enrichment. This would be instead of them interacting with the actual terrain, which while that would be amazing to have, would probably be a nightmare to code and have it be done in such a way that the meerkats do not count as escaped animals. maybe a 2x1 burrow, 2x2 burrow, 3x1 burrow, 3x2 burrow and 3x3 burrow. maybe even some with some flattened areas in the middle of the burrows. Heck going off if they made it extensive enough I would actually pay $10 for just a meerkat DLC. granted they ARE my most wanted animal so it's not like I'd do that with any other animal though, maybe the wombat (which also burrows lol) :D
