Horizons Planetary Bases and SRV Expeditions

I've not tried it yet, but before I do I'm willing to bet someone can answer this one.

When you land & dock at a planetside base, most of which appear to have ramps leading down to 'ground', are you able to deploy your SRV from the docking platform? Is this what people do?

Obviously, somewhere built into a cliff like Black Hide (The Dweller's gaff) won't accommodate surface driving, but somewhere flat should, right?

Example: If I land on a planet, dock my ship and drop into the garage, am I able to "return to surface", deploy my SRV and go for a drive (maybe to collect some materials etc.), without incurring the wrath of the station security lasers?

Thanks CMDRs!

Yes, you can absolutely deploy your SRV from within a surface base's hangar. If you wish to return to your ship while it's still in the hangar, you have to 'request docking' from your SRV, the navigation compass should point to the garage where you have to drive and where you'll be able to return to your ship.

This is good to know! I never knew this! Thanks!

Which is EXACTLY what I did the first time I deployed my SRV from a base, before I came to this forum to find out what I did wrong ;)

Wrong no, inconvenient maybe... I didn't know until recently you could recall you ship from orbit when driving on base and have it land a the base. Adds a cool element to the game.

Whatever you do. Do NOT manually turn off your hangar bay due to it being on would exceed your power plant. If you do and land on a planet then turn it on and then deploy your SRV; DO NOT dismiss your ship. It will hilariously try to leave without enough power. You then will try to log out then log back in to find your ship not there. You then recall your ship and you will hilariously watch your ship fall to the planet without power. I'll let you imagine what would happen on a 1.0G+ planet.

Always, always priority set you planetary hangar bay before you leave in your SRV.
