Planetary 'Blue' Zones

When prospecting for mats, do you 'have' to find and land in the blue zones in order to get rares or are they a red (well, blue) herring?

Also, am I missing something or is the only way to find them to wander over the surface at max cruise (a whole 182 in my Conda) at between 2 - 10Km?

The blue zones indicate only that theres POI down there. Most likely some crashed spaceship which is guarded by couple of drones.
Minerals/materials dont show up in the ships radar, only in SRV's radar.

Go check out SRV tutorial by dognosh, theres all the info you really need. ;)
