Reading New Scientist today it transpires that planetary collisions (with each other, not my ship) are considered very likely, particularly in those systems with gas giants in close proximity to their star.
Got to thinking would be a an interesting system to explore in game. Maybe rare ores exposed. Maybe a more dynamic rock strewn system system to navigate. It could certainly offer interesting images in dust strewn light filtering thru debris. A rescue mission could possibly emerge if a station or mega ship caught up in the mix. Lots of potential I think.
