Planetary landings and exploration

Ideas for things that would be nice to have, aside from the obvious photo opportunities.

Soil samples from an earthlike being valuable.

Bringing back some of the local flora and fauna, having to decide if the extra weight is worth it. The ultimate rare goods.

Additional repairs being possible when landed in a human-breathable atmospheric.

Restocking "ammo" for heat sinks ant autorepair (and guns if you carry them) from metal planets, if you can find the correct type.

Bringing a cargo of slaves and farming equipment to leave behind.

What are your ideas?

The first thing I would like to see implemented with planetary landing is remote mining system such as was in FFE (2?)

Like most of your ideas although dumping slaves off with some spades and seeds is not realy viable and being able to restock manufactured items without having the proper kit is nonsensical, perhaps with a mining system and a auto fabricator this might work

Wasn't that basically how Australia and America were colonised? Getting people there (voluntary or not) with spades and seeds?

Yes i agree that restocking it should require some kind of module, but it shouldn't be to expensive in terms of space requirements.

What about the ability to set up modular prefab buildings? I think it would be cool to find my own planet and then build my own city on it over several long journeys and a long period of time. Above-mentioned mining tools would be give the city a purpose, and maybe some way to set up automatic defenses. That might stray from what elite is supposed to be though .
