Horizons Planetary Landings & Wings

This is a pretty stupid question, but is there a reliable way to locate more precisely where your wing mates are on the surface when in orbital cruise? As I came out of it into normal speed it kept putting me roughly around 300-600km out from them. Also, we both had our beacons on but when I was approaching the planet I couldn't even tell what side of the planet they were on, I only found their rough location by them telling me they were on the "sunny" side of the planet, so is there anything that I'm missing here?

Was this every answered? I don't think it's a bug I just don't think I know how to follow wingman from supercruise to planet-side. The closest we've gotten is 18km apart, and we can't really figure out how it's supposed to be done. If we follow eachother in the throttle's blue zone to the planet , which also seems iffy cuz you cant just point and follow the throttle to the planet, you'll crash. You have to pull up and go in gradully, and the blue zone seems irrelevant? Am I missing something?

There is an option in the comms panel which gives the FSD jump control to the wing leader. This way, the FSDs are engaged at the same time when the leader engages it.

We always travel with wing mates in this manner. Make sure you have that option selected in the comms panel.

At the worst case scenario, planet bound mates come out and pick you up from orbit.

You can always drop onto your wingmate's FSD wake. Alternatively you can tell them to enable a wing beacon which is enabled from the wing section in the comms menu, or the functions tab in the right-hand menu. This beacon acts the same as a low energy FSD wake allowing you to drop from supercruise to the location of the wingmate..... No idea how well the wing beacon would work on a planet though, for all I know it could end up smashing you directly into the surface.

@tuxedosteve and @cynaqq (I guess I don't know how to tag people?)

Not sure if I was clear, I'm asking about following your wingmate from SC to planet-side, going through OC and glide, at the same time. I know you can just wait for them to get in and then fly to their beacon, but obviously I feel their should be a way to just follow them in like you do going system to system or from flight to SC.

My other concern is I'm unclear as to how the blue throttle section is to be used when landing planetside. If you just point at a settlement (outpost?) on a planet, even if you're still above the red drop-out section of the altimeter and even if the throttle is in the lowest section of the blue, I've several times "crashed" into the planet before finishing my approach. It seems like you have to fly at anything you want to land at at a drastically reduced angle or you can fly right at it baby-ing the throttle so you don't crash, and I'm not sure what elements of the HUD indicate the best angle or speed of approach to get to a specific landing site. The HUD is great for landing anywhere on the planet in general, but getting to a specific spot seems like guess and check.

EDIT FOR OP: Never addressed this, but the wing beacon part works fine for me. If you fly around the planet from a distance you can see what side of the planet the beacon is then it's the same as always. As long as you follow it through orbital cruise, then you'll drop near your wingmate after you finish your glide. There is no indicator in glide though which I think throws people off, but you just have to get through it.
