Planetary Landings?

Can you choose to land on any planet in a system or are there only a few per system? Do you have to buy that rover thingy? Can all ships carry one? Excuse my ignorance as i have yet to play the new update

Only planets without an atmosphere - when you get it they are highlighted with a blue arc around the planet in the map

No you don't need the rover to land on a planet - obviously you do to drive around

Yes but you need a hangar as well for your ship ( a class 2 slot) - I would also upgrade thrusters and sensors

No problem

If you are very new to Horizons.... you will find a very good guide which is linked from the launcher

It's not very well named but look for the one named "ELITE DANGEROUS:HORIZONS BETA - QUICK START GUIDE"

that should help you with the basic stuff :)

And not all planets without atmosphere, but only icy bodies, rocky bodies, metal-rich bodies, and high metal content worlds become candidates for landing when there is no atmosphere. There have also been reports that there are some other unknown (AFAIK) criteria for determining what can be landed on (saw a recent post showing a HMC world with no atmosphere that was not landable).

The SRV isn't mandatory, but a planetary approach suite is.

If you bought Horizons and not just the 1.5 update, you might want to check out these videos from Frontier.
