Planetary mining facilities? New to me.

Been in Fong system having a wander and came across mining outposts, with a load of drills churning up the ground , all protected with a few turrets and skimmers.
Of course I had to blow some up , and found the drills would drop 1 ton (or one cargo slot) of whatever they were mining. There were a few sites dotted about , some with about 20 rigs and some with just 5. Anyway , I've never seen them before. Not a bad way to pick up some mats.

You'll also find them near those huge curricular surface ports. Don't shoot those ones ;-)

Curricular surface ports .... like colleges for NPCs ?

You will come across these occasionally. They demonstrate to me that we are part way there to having some kind of mining available to us on planet surfaces. The facilities have already been designed.
