Planetary navigation

I would love to be able to target a specific latitude and longitude on a planet upon approach. Also, setting a nav bookmark on a planet surface location would be nice.

Thanks for all you do.[up]

This is a very, Very, VEry, VERy, VERY common request! Frontier MUST be aware of this by now and I'd be extremely surprised (and disappointed) if we didn't get some kind of planetary surface bookmarking feature as part of the Quality of Life updates coming next year.

In the meantime you might find this handy ...

Basically you put in where you are and where you want to get to and it tells you what heading to take.

I do agree that the planetary navigation system is a bit clunky, although I will say that it's far from difficult once you find a process that works. (For me, I fly in orbital cruise at 90 / 0 to get to the lat position, then turn 90º and fly until I get to the long position.)

My one (perhaps small) concern with planetary markers is that the game becomes even more 'point and click'. I hope that over time FD will be able to come up with a way to pinpoint a general location, and then enable us to look for and find things in a practical and fun entertaining way (no RNG, please). I recognize it's challenging with 1:1 scale planets, even at the speeds we are able to fly.

Anyway, not wishing to put down your suggestion, just hoping that FD can come up with a way of finding everything in the game more engaging and fun. In real life, knowing exactly where you are going before you set out is probably a very good thing, but in a game, finding stuff should be part of the fun. :)
