So I've been struggling since Saturday with unplayable planetary landings. I look at a planet sideways and I have 1 frame every 3 seconds. Transition to glide is taking 3 minutes. This hadn't happened before, despite my older gtx cards (560ti x2) but just by its nature I thought "this is my machine" so I didn't raise a fuss. Well last night while waiting to hear what would happen in Penn I was unlocking an engineer, and on my second trip it all suddenly unlocked. Smooth transitions, no frame rate drop, all back to normal. But but but....I didn't do anything! So, this really no longer seems like an issue with my machine if it just clicks into place in the middle of my gaming session.
So, I've got to ask: was it just me? Was anyone else getting unplayable lag only for planets this week? I mean hey, great that it works again but I'd sure like to know what was going on. It really put a damper on my game this week.
Also, my network seemed fine, hyperspace worked fine, and it felt like gtx-related lag more than anything else but could it have been networking just the same? I was solo only last night, but I don't know what kind of server communication happens w/r/t planets.
