Planetary rescue failed after half hour.

:S I was given 2.5 hours to do this mission, half hour in it says mission failed.

Well, BimblesDidums, all I've got to say about that is didums! :D

Seriously though, report it through the proper channel so they are aware of the bug (I'm sure they are, but if they are bombarded with bug listings they will prioritise fixing them).

It's an old, known issue that affects several Planetary Mission (Rescue Missions often suffering the worst from that faulty Timer - quickest failure I ever saw was instantly after accepting the Mission :p )

They can still be done - but one is best off doing them really fast, regardless of what the Mission timer says.

PS.
What you lose on the Planetary Salvage/Rescue Missions, you usually get on top of any Safeguard this Cargo/Data until you're contacted type Mission.
Just yesterday, I saw a 20 Minute ETA turn into a full 3.5 hours wait on a "Safe & Sound" Mission before it was updated to actually meet an NPC with proper Timer ;)

Oh dear!

And if you have one of those, I have had it's expiry also kick another Planetary mission to expire. Took me a while to understand never to pick up rescue missions but, instead, get the pods then find missions after.

What about killing sentries?

I have a Cracking Down available, need to kill 10 sentries, i have 15h 30m.

Are these also bugged?

Nice one, will remember this tip.

You can approach this the other way around to circumvent the bug.
Take some "Kill sentries" missions and go look for POI. The sentries are very often guarding - you guessed it - escape pods! Just collect them as you go and bring them back with you. Find SAR missions, accept them and you can immediately give them the pods. (interestingly enough, they don't care WHOM you have saved as long as you saved SOMEONE :D)

Yup, it's bugged to hell.

Best course of action is to accept as many rescue missions as possible, then as quick as possible, go and find the POIs, as they will likely all have Pods in.
Doesn't matter if the missions fail, just keep going until they stop spawning.
Once you have 'plenty' (full hold), abandon all the failed missions, then return to base. (In that order)
Chances are, most of the missions are back on the board again.
Now all you need to do is accept the mission, and then hand in a pod to complete it!
Ideally do one at a time, cos some will fail in less than 10 seconds!

Is this one of those "We have lots of content, players just don't utilize it" missions DB was referring to?

This happened to me a lot while I was grinding out Empire rep on HIP 10716. I stopped taking them because of it. Honestly, if I took 8 of these missions, I'd fail 6 before I even landed at times.

I really like the surface salvage missions for some reason, so I take them about as often as I can. I have only had this particular issue once, but I have indeed had it before.

I should probably keep this in mind because if I get another fetch-type mission for other commodities (source n of this commodity), I often go out and find the pods, then jump out to whatever other system to get other goods and then come back. Weird that I do not get this issue more often, then, come to think of it. The only time it happened, I was on a quick run to another system and it confused me quite a bit.

So, it happens with salvage, too? I never take those. I just stopped taking anything but the base assault missions after the rescue ones kept failing.

This has happened to me a million times. It's annoying.

Luckily you can easily stack those surface missions by stocking up on the escape pods.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter if the quest fails, as long as you get the pods.

Funny thing is: I never find the pods unless I have a mission, lol. Tea, gold, and crashed beacons are all I ever find.
