Greetings, forum.
Please forgive me if this should be in a dedicated help subforum. I have a question with regard to 'planetary scan job' contracts.
A couple of times I've attempted to locate a target settlement or facility in a system using the FSS. I find that if the system is not already known to me - so all planetary bodies are still fuzzy signatures on the FSS tuning scale - then as I scan through them the target system will appear in orange and I can lock it as a destination.
However, if the system is already mapped and all bodies are known, I don't know how to make the FSS system search for the target, and I have to resort to the nav beacon instead.
For example, the system I'm currently in shows several landable bodies. The target must be on one of those; so I go through them in the FSS, zooming in on each one. None of them triggers the mission update. So I head over to the nav beacon and scan it, and find the body I need is A2 - one I've already scanned, or at least zoomed in on, through FSS.
The only thing I can think of is that I haven't allowed the zoomed-in FSS scan of the planet to complete, a) because it takes such a very long time and b) it isn't needed when finding a target in a previously un-mapped system. The target appears as soon as the planet graphic resolves into high-res. Is this the missing step, or is there something else I've overlooked? Is there a way to make the FSS 'search again' on an already-mapped body?
I'd appreciate any tips. I'm one of those weird people who really like the FSS and would love to be able to use it rather than having to go to the nav beacon every time.
