Planetary SLFs

An SLF especially designed for planetary flying and combat. These could be variants of the existing fighters. A loadout idea:
Beefed up thrusters (to keep above the surface better).
1 gimballed laser (pulse or beam).
1 dumbfire missile rack (for base attacks).
No utility mount.

I like the idea, but what stops these from being used in space? Sounds like an amazing, and likely OP, tactical strike fighter. If it has unlimited ammo, like other fighters do.

That's why I put no utility mount on them. You're right though CMDR Hagglebeard, they need somthing else to stop them being used space.

Has anyone tried to take out gun emplacements and skimmers with SLFs or is that even possible with the limited targeting. Would need an SLF with dumbfire missiles.

That can easily be done by having jet engines rather than thrusters. Given that any planet does have an atmosphere, albeit very thin, a jet would operate in the thin atmosphere but not in a total vacuum.
