Planets not displaying after Discovery Scan

I have been having a problem lately while exploring. I'm probably about 1000ly away from settled space, and had a spate of systems that appeared empty. I logged off, only to log back in and the previously empty system actually had planetary bodies. I discovered that I was regularly scanning the system down where it would report "18 Astronomical Objects Discovered", but the system remains blank in the system map. If I re-log, it appears.

Is this just a server communication issue, or a bug? I can imagine, though I have not tested, that if I jump out of that system, then back in again, it will likely display. But it's been happening frequently enough, that I am curious to see how common the problem is, and if there's a better way to force a refresh of the system map?

Thanks in advance..

Yes, if your scan finds objects but you only see stars in the map (fewer stars than the number of objects found) then keep re-scanning and re-checking map until it works.

If your scan finds 7 objects and the map shows a star and a belt... then it's probably correct (all object are in the belt) but I don't trust it and re-scan just to be sure :)

Ah... so is this what they call a "half scan"? I should have known! Should I just scan a second time?

If the bodies don't all appear on your scanner after being told that X objects have been discovered, Yes, fire up the Discovery Scanner again.

Known as "Double Honking".

OP,

Double Scanning however is where you get close enough for your Surface Scanner to activate and start its scan and you then get the message top right corner to say the scan is complete, however the scanner re-starts and then you need to wait until it has completed.

Again, a right royal pain the Asp.

I thought that this issued had been sorted...iv not experienced any double honks or double scans in 3 days.

Incidentally - I found another way to resolve the double-honk:

After honking, if you load the system view, about 50% of the time it actually subsequently reveals the planets in the scanner. Then you go back into the system view and they're there.

Most odd.

Found this a lot more recently.

Also found way around the problem, waiting for computer to say there is 1 discovered body/planet. Then start discovery Scan, this brings up all discovered planets correctly.

Yes it does slow you down if you are trying to scan and jump, but wounder this this is the point of the so called issue?

My sequence of actions is:
- enable hyperjump
- when countdown starts, switch off engines completely (button mouse for that)
- on new system arrival, center on the arrival sun
- start to scan system
- on honk, target sun and open System window (if more than 3 objects)

With latest patch, I no more have any double honk. I used to have it happening sometimes before the patch, though - so it seems the patch
But if I start to scan the system immediately on arrival, I sometimes have double honks even with latest patch! So it's really a matter of a few seconds.

- when countdown starts, switch off engines completely (button mouse for that)

Does your hotkey for engines-off work if you're using a USB throttle? How do you set it up? (Or have I misunderstood?)

Throttling up and down several thousand jumps... I'd rather not wear down the friction plates if I don't have to :)
