Dust off your Jackhammer's, MCG's and Lasher's and get in game. If you haven't already tried this awesome underrated gem of an MMO, this weekend will be your chance to experience the complex and deep strategic global game play that the dumbed down, lackluster sequel failed to deliver.
Firstly it's a first person shooter released in 2003, yes old but still very immersive and engaging game play. There are no rounds and you can in a slightly similar vein to Elite traverse all the Continents/Maps via warpgates or high altitude drop from a shuttle.
You can equip or certify, as it is known in game, many different play styles. You can fly and drop on bases and towers, dogfight, bomb or assault ground targets. Drive or gun vehicles from tanks to buggy's, even a dedicated anti air vehicle.
There is ranged and close quarter combat. Choose several types of armour to match your play style. You can even equip a cloaking suit and go hack and sabotage bases, implanting viruses that turn friendly turrets hostile, disabling radar (very important that one), to draining power faster or simply open all locked doors. You could just plant bomb s near enemy snipers or doorways if combat while invisible floats your boat
Planetside has a deep meta game under the surface and you can choose a support role if combat is not your thing. I just gave a basic summary there are far more things to do as well and hopefully if we get the numbers we can relive those battles of yesteryear that made you tell war stories.
Download it and register. It is all free, no catch. If you have a Planetside 2 account then that will work too.
