Horizons PLANETSIDE HOMEBASE

I have just purchased ED Horizons it looks interesting. And after playing Elite Dangerous for the last
two years I just have to ask. Will Horizons have a Hub , Settlement or Base that we can build or buy.?

It would give players a part of the game to call there own and even give them a reason to continue to
explorer and play the game for many years. There are plenty of planets I would think if we where to
have a Planetside Base and it would give us players a better reason to join or create a Faction.

What do you think?

Having a base or a station in an asteroid that you build yourself is something that Elite, specifically David Braben, have stated that they'd like to do. However, it is not in any immediate plans for any season.

If in any way possible I would love to have a personal modular player base as a money sink.
I would not mind if we could only have them underground to lighten the load for the game's engine.

We would need modules like living quarters, control room, storage room, hangar, armory, infirmary, defense systems, power generators etc. etc.
I would love to do some base construction.... having to save money for new modules... think about the best way to create my underground base etc.

Being able to build a place I could call home would be great.

FD could sell vanity stuff for base building too and would be able to make some money that way..

A++++ would love to build my own home outpost on a small moon or asteroid. Also, before anyone comes in and says "this is not what Elite is about": ED is not a religion. We can change stuff.

It sure would be nice. I bet it comes within the next year , they already have us docking on planets in deferent garages.
Would not take much for us to rent or buy a House or Warehouse on some planets.

You respond to a post telling you "it's not in any immediate plans for any season" with "I bet it comes within the next year"? Wow, that's optimism for you.


Do you lose a lot of money in bets?


Joking aside, I'm taking the more sensible "Sometime around 2-3 years from now"-bet.

Your Homebase is where the 'free' sidewinder is based. Cmdrs are essentially nomads living on there ship with occasional stops at space stations. The effects of time dilatation means anyone on planet would be long gone compared to the cmdr

Once the penny drops that if there is no game advantage of having fancy base station then they could charge ££ for all the extras and have clear conscience.

Basically it is on the list.
But there is a lot on said list, so be patient creating a game like elite is not easy or simple despite what it might look to be from a user perspective.

I think yes. the idea is a no-brainer. In a galaxy with 400 BILLION star systems, there should be no problem allowing players to own their own refineries, manufacturing plants etc. in the form of ground settlements and orbital platforms. Those things should cost a lot of money to fully develop, but should be available nonetheless.
