It's on my wishlist for a future update.
Plenty of battles do descend into the kind of chaos we see at Conflict Zones right now, and you could make an argument that with fresh mercs arriving all the time then such chaos could plausibly be sustained over the course of several days... but it does feel a little odd, considering battles like Lugh or others where big powers get involved. Are the Federation/Empire really going to just sign pilots up, direct them to the conflict zones, and tell them to great stuck in? Even the sites where a capital ship jumps in still devolves into hanging out round the capital ship and a chaotic mess.
I would've thought that organised powers such as the Federation, or sub-factions within the Empire, would actually organise their battles a little better - or at least, start out with a plan at any rate - planned deployments, formations, certain ships assigned to specific tasks such as only going after a particular type of ship, or groups assigned to take out specific named groups of the enemy. It feels a little strange and not exactly immersive right now with this lack.
On the other hand this would be a big ask, since each battle would require a degree of hand-placing - setting in place a basic plan and structure for the conflicts to at least open with (even if they descended into chaos later), so I doubt the devs could implement this any time soon.
