Planning a soft reset... but what effect does pilot rating have on missions?

I've been playing this commander since beta and I'm really starting to miss the challenge of being a poor space bum in a sidewinder! I'm not keen on doing a full reset as I believe you lose your exploration "first discovered" tags (I could be wrong) as well as any other achievements.

So my likely plan is to sink every penny into a ship full of cargo, open a beer and drive it full speed into a planet, opting for the free sidewinder afterwards. This will put my back at the start of the crawl but without losing my achievements.

The problem is I'm not sure if my ranks will remove any of the challenge! Can anyone tell me what effect your harmless>elite rankings have on the game? Do you see better missions etc? I'm hoping they will have no effect and I will still have the challenge of running low value missions... it's all a bit pointless if I can just upgrade my ship after one delivery run!

Any info on the effect of your ratings and ranks would be great!

Your elite rankings just make higher paying missions available to you, the bulletin board mix doesn't really change.

Never tried it but I can't think of a reason why you wouldn't still have access to the BB missions your ranks in each of the three roles gives you. You'll still have the ranks you have now.
However, your ability to complete them will be significantly limited by the hardware you're using at the time.
Don't imagine a sidewinder with basic kit will work well against an elite anaconda if you go chasing pirates for example. Or that you will be able to fit the required tonnage of cargo for the trade missions.
Guess it'll come down to whatever limits you impose on yourself.
Could you pursue the second account route that people talk about on the forums? Don't know details of that myself.

Sometimes!! I`m Elite and was offered an elite rank only mission for the mighty sum of just over 8,000 credits, this is beyond a joke.

I`m afraid FD haven`t even made mention of the issue, its like everything rosy. I wouldn`t hold my breath on this one.

Even better, I`m after coming across another such mission for less than 5k, Frontier sort this asap.

Exactly. Missions from he beginning have always been a joke. We need missions that allow us to feel involved in the game. Missions that make it personal. Not these cookie cutter exact same missions over and over no matter where you are in 400 billion stars.

Cant remember if I could or couldnt go to the founders world before I was Elite, but i "think" you need elite status to go there.

Its the most stocked starbase in the game. Every ship is available there and and almost every part and everything costs 10% less. Also you dont lose your rank when you die. Ive crashed a ship without enough insurance and when i came back i was still the same rank.
