Plant reserves not showing after probs with surface scanner

Hi all new player here and getting into mining after using a surface scanner on the rings when i go to planet information top right it says you have not yet mapped this planets common reserves as I'm exploring looking for pristine ring what I'm i missing thanks in advance using a scanner that is lvl 1 not sure if that matters and system has already been explored by someone else its in the bubble not sure if that matter tried a few planets same thing also tried tried logging in and out.

If you fire probes at the rings, it will find and highlight areas where you can find specific resources in the rings only, they will show up on the rings themselves as patches of colour (not within the Full System Scanner (FSS) screen, but looking at the rings from your ship).

If you fire the probes at the planet itself from the FSS it will show what is on the planet surface only in the FSS screen, not the surrounding rings.

I'm not sure if that's answering your question.

my understanding was fire probs would also tell you if the ring is pristine or not when you check the local system map and click on planet information top right if the probs don't do this how do i tell the rings reserves in the information tab as it just says unmapped and does not tell me

Like mentioned above, fire a probe at the rings and it'll map them and add those details. (IIRC the rings require only a single probe, they don't need to be "covered" the same way the planet surface does.)

i must be missing something then as I have fired probs at the rings and when I click on local map and go to planet it says unmapped and will not show reserves

@Esox Wolf - Are you doing this?
Note that I've scanned neither planet nor rings.

Watch as the rings wash with colour after the probe hits, if there are multiple rings some bands will be missed and will need a separate probe.

No I clicked on the top icon with the planet with I in the centre and reserves say unmapped i can see ring levels in this picture unless I'm reading it wrong ?
The 'unmapped' part of the system map relates to the planet, not the rings. If you have scanned the rings and cannot see any orange areas (also check on your navigation panel on your left for hotspots) then there are no hotspots in that ring.
Try another planet rings to check you are doing it right.
