Plasma Accelerator vs Advanced Plasma Accelerator

I've been trying to find some in-game footage comparing the two side by side. I've only found one video showing it being used.

I'm curious as to the APA's effectiveness compared to a regular Class 3 PA.

I know it shoots twice as fast in terms of ROF and generates half as much heat (but since it fires twice as fast that balances out). I know it does less damage (but again, with the ROF that balances out, at least in terms of DPS)

But what about the speed of the shot, does it travel faster than the regular PA at all, or does it travel at the same speed? Are there any other difference between the two one should know? Would you recommend using one over a regular PA?

Apparently APA has faster projectile speed, but no evidence there. However, it is useful for people to use APA on more maneuverable ships and is running on low weapon capacitor budget. For builds that are less tight on the capacitor and less maneuverable, go for PA.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think the travel velocity of the round is the same.

The PA is like throwing 1 rock at someone. Needs to be well timed but if the target moves your going to miss.

The Advanced PA is like picking up a handful of rocks and throwing it at someone. Your bound to hit him eventually.

I've got 2 days before I can get the APA, after which I will test them on a number of ships, although I presume they will have the same projectile travel time issues as the normal ones, making them inferior to hit scan weapons in PvP, but still fun to use vs NPC's.

And if your shot is steady enough, you'll do the same as a PA, but it's not as All-Or-Nothing as the regular PA. That's my logic behind going for it. Just hoping it's the right logic.

Any particular reason? I'd like to know how they differ for people.

I guess lining up once for the perfect shot can be easier and more rewarding with the high damage than having to aim spot on over a long time.
Similar with rail gun/imperial hammer.
