I wonder if we will get more plasma based weapons in the future?

Seems unlikely. Plasma is sort of gaseous so it'd be hard to beam, burst or pulse it like a laser. Maybe a plasma caster, short range like the frag-cannon?

I'm always in favour of more weapon types. Plasma beams, plasma frags and (my perennial favourite) plasma flamethrowers would all be most welcome.

None of the weapons we have now - including the existing plasma devices - make much logical sense, so I don't see this as a notable problem. Next to laser ranges, magic shield bubbles and top speeds in space, it's a model of plausibility. In any event, gameplay should trump simulation, sometimes, just because it's more fun that way.
