We have plasma repeaters for SLF and Scarab. People talk about this weapon for the ships every year, yet there is still no sign of plasma repeaters for ships :(
This kind of weapon should exist instead of advanced multicannons.
It is balanced as thermal and kinetic type weapon:
+Available in either fixed, turret and gimballed
+Up to class 3
+Engineerable
+Bratatatata/pewpewpew RoF
+Consumes ammo (Can be engineered with plasma slug, using fuel instead)
+Has visible bright projectile for weapon projectile colors
-Not hitscan (It fires a plasma projectile that does not travel faster than small calibre but can be engineered with long range for faster travel time)
-Heaty boi (Can be engineered for efficiency)
Less power and distribution draw compared to laser weapons
More power and distribution draw compared to kinetic weapons
Damage drop off starts at 1500m
3km range
Looks cool
Sounds cool



And turret maybe fires in 5 round burst to avoid friendly fire or cannon foddering?
 
Tbh I think that's the advanced plasma accelerator.

While the APA is a good weapon, it still performs quite differently to the plasma repeater. And while i'd like the plasma repeater as ship weapon, i also have my doubts that it would actually be a good idea. It would be monstrously powerful when scaled up to bigger hardpoints.

So either people would complain about massive power creep, or about the weapon being scaled wrongly. (And i can tell some names here, who'd be ready to support both sides of the complaining, for the mere fun of complaining. ) Thus i unfortunately think that we won't get the plasma repeater as weapon.

the repeater (should) behaves much more like multicannons unlike low rof low damage plasma accelerator (fires probably 7 or 8 faster with way less damage; available in smaller sizes and gimballed, turret options; also not locked behind pp grind wall; etc).

While the current plasma SLF is less effective compared to it's other options due to slow projectile speed, i don't think the repeater will be powerful even with long range engineering for faster projectiles because that's trade off for efficiency engineering for sustained fire.

Unless they give absolute damage to the repeater, the only actual advantage of the weapon is plasma slug engineering for literally unlimited ammo. If the weapon won't get the plasma slug option then there is no reason to use the repeater over multicannons.

+1 to dedicated plasma repeaters.

Plasma chargers shine when you get hits with fully charged shots. I don't see any point in firing them in short burst like a plasma repeater because of low DPS. Otoh, APAs engineered with Rapid Fire will work more like plasma repeaters.
