Plasma Tornado on the Sun

Hmmm...your Computer pings the warning "Solar Event Imminent! 10 seconds to minimum safe distance".

Would get the blood flowing.
This, solar events would be quite interesting, especially if they had far reaching consequences, of course if you are close you get broiled near instantly, but imagine if it flared out into space realistically and if there was a say extraction zone in its way with people in those people would get a warming to seek shelter (get out of direct sunlight) if not flare would cause random things to happen, harm shield, disrupt shield entirely? heat up ship significantly? that sort of stuff.

That would be brilliant. Really add some drama.

I like the sound of that especially around unstable stars. I'm still hoping that super novae will be put into the game.

Love the sound of all of that. Could even be a community goal where we had to evacuate the population of a system as much as possible before the star explodes.

(Perhaps) unfortunately Novae are very rare .. maybe one in a thousand years per galaxy? Can you imagine the outcry on forums though? "I lost my bounties because the STAR exploded (again)" ..
Bring it on :D

edit: worth mentioning that if Betelgeuse (our nearest red giant Nova candidate, top left star in Orion, and appears red to the naked eye) happens to pop in real life, then FD would probably have to model it, to keep the assertion that the galaxy model is accurate, as far as is possible.

Nice +1

Rep to the OP .. just when I thought astronomy couldn't be any more awe inspiring. Wow.

That's a CG I'd take part in, then when it's over loiter for the Nova.

Absolutely. We all sit out at about 1AU and wait for the big flash! At that distance we'd have to wait about 8 minutes to see said flash after the fact but we'd also have time to get out of the way of any expanding energy sphere/explosion and other things that would kill us all. Any closer and you'd be chancing it.

... then FSD out if there when the energy wave gets too close for comfort. First one to jump out is a p***y! ;-)

I was out of SC, doing some work elsewhere when I saw this happening on my games screen... Very calm, slow, solar flare. Quite beautiful. Wasn't tempted to jump into Frame Shift and try flying through it though.
