Currently, it isn't possible to play E
laying down unless you run Windows 10 and play the game through Bigscreen Beta/virtual desktop, which comes with a performance cost. Why would I want to lay down? Well, eventually one's bed is more comfortable than their chair, and the human wrist allows a HOTAS to still be fully functional when at a a 90 degree angle from normal.
Within your engine, all you really need to do is swap the Y and Z axes when you go to render the game area. If you want to over-achieve, you can put in a 'tilt' feature, similar to what Whirligig has. Please Frontier, make this VR spacer happy and let me play while laying in my bed. Then I can turn on the debug camera and truly be looking at the stars.
